POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

 

This role will be responsible for monitoring qualitative/quantitative testing of process and product attributes to ensure food safety and food quality.

 

Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations such as the Pasteurized Milk Ordinance. Compliance with all applicable standards such as FSSC 22000, Third party audits, Internal audits, Kosher and Organic requirements.

 

Ensure processes, work in progress, incoming goods, in-process product, finished product meets specifications. Interpretation of testing results to release of product that has met specifications. Process documentation for non-conforming product and communicate information to plant management.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

·  Must be able to work with chemicals.
·  Must be able to evaluate physical properties of ingredients and products.
·  Must be able to work weekends and have flexibility to work overtime as needed.
·  Must be able to regularly lift and / or move up to 60 pounds.
·  Ability to work in cold conditions for extended periods of time.
·  Must be able to work in and around loud noise levels, industrial machinery, air-conditioned environments suitable for carrying out controlled tests.
·  Must interface regularly throughout the shift with multiple departments and levels of leadership.
·  Must be accurate and precise in testing procedures and mix formulation calculations and have a keen sense of odors and flavors.
·  Must have basic compliance understanding.
·  Must have the ability to do basic math calculations, critical thinking, and result interpretation.
·  Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices.
·  Able to operate office machinery: computers, printers, copiers, scanners
·  Able to use software asMicrosoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Visio, etc.), SAP, MP2, IQS
·  Experience using Lab equipment including: CEM, FT120, D-Count, Epic, Petrifilm, Lateral Flow Device, pipettors,

        pH meter, refractometer, conductivity meter, microscope, incubators, etc.

·  Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
·  Must be able to read, write and interpret documents such as specification tables, safety rules and procedure manuals.
·  Must have the ability to prioritize and organize.
·  Must have decision-making abilities to determine best course of action in assessing test results.
·  Must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
·  Must possess basic computer skills; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs required.

 

 

 

Candidate Qualifications:

 

·  Bachelor’s degree in a science field or equivalent combination of education and experience is highly desirable. Must have High School diploma at a minimum.
·  Two or more years with previous laboratory with microbiology and chemistry experience required.
·  1-3 years of experience in a food production environment.
·  Must have clear understanding of compliance to regulatory requirements related to food safety and public health.
