Position Title: Technologist

Duration : Temporary (6 Months) – Full-time

Department : Chemistry 3

Major Activities of the Job:

Advanced Instrumental Testing (one or more of the following tests: HPLC, GC, AA, TOC):

·  Set up and ensure operation of equipment is satisfactory
·  Perform equipment preventative maintenance, if required
·  Maintain equipment logbooks
·  Perform system suitability testing, if required
·  Investigate and determine root cause if system suitability testing does not meet criteria

Advanced Routine Chemical Testing (one or more of the following tests: BCG Moisture, SDS-PAGE/Western Blot, Aluminum Determination):

SDS-PAGE/ Western Blot:

·  Samples and standards are prepared, precipitated and treated as per SOP
·  Reagents are prepared
·  Various gel concentrations are prepared according to antigen being tested
·  Confirmation of antigen identify by western blot
·  Purify and impurities determined by densitometer
·  Record results in logbook and TR

BCG Moisture:

·  Prepare vials
·  Perform series of weighings over six days
·  Perform calculations
·  Record results in logbook and TR

Aluminum Determination:

·  Prepare samples and reagents
·  Digest samples
·  Perform back titration and calculations
·  Record results in logbook and TR

Raw Material Testing:

·  Perform testing on over 100 different raw materials according to methods outlined in each specification
·  Test include purity and trace analysis
·  Purity - aqueous and non-aqueous titrations, back titrations, melting point, thin layer chromatography
·  Trace analysis - chloride, heavy metals, iron, sulphate, residue on ignition, loss on drying, identify testing
·  Perform literature searches to ensure current test methods are used and recommend improvements where applicable

Miscellaneous Laboratory Activities:

·  As work schedule dictates, is able and expected to perform all aspects of tests and acts as a back-up for relevant office work
·  The following laboratory tests include: identify tests for thimerosal, sodium, haemophilus, etc., specific gravity, sucrose determination, optical rotation

Maintenance of Quality Systems (including adherence to GxPs, safety guidelines, monitoring and maintaining documentation related to facilities, equipment and testing):

·  Responsible for identifying and notifying Manager or designate of any laboratory non-conformances. Provide required supporting documentation to expediate the closures of these events
·  Ensures adherence to safety guidelines as outlined in corporate and site policies
·  Report any damages/abnormalities to Manager and/or designate and/or notify Security/Physical Plant.
·  Provide testing information for testing metrics to Manager or designate
·  Confirm SAP process orders

New Tests/Test Transfer:

·  Develop/Optimize new test procedures
·  Participate in transferring test from AS&I
·  Compile and analyze all test results

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Minimum three (3) years Community College Diploma (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Math), plus a minimum three (3) years of previous relevant work experience
·  Preferred four (4) years Bachelor's Degree (BSc, Chemistry, Biochemistry) plus a minimum two (2) years of relevant previous work experience
·  Working knowledge in the following areas: Standard Chemical/Biochemical laboratory techniques; SOP writing and validation analysis; GMP/GLP techniques
·  Excellent verbal and written Communication skills
·  Ability work within a team and independently
·  Strong Organization and Planning skills with a Problem-solving mindset
