The Software Architect plays an important role in the development process and is responsible for ensuring the overall structure of the complete software solution meets the demands of high availability systems while ensuring they are easy to use, efficient to configure, resilient and cyber secure. In addition, the role ensures the associated Tools meet contemporary and international standards.

Job Description

In this role you will

  • Collaborating with engineering team leaders to define, design and update the software architecture of products and tools for our Automation and Control systems.
  • Ensuring the product and Automation solution functional requirements are clearly documented prior to starting development work.
  • Ensuring products, tools and systems are fit for purpose and scalable, maintainable and secure by design.
  • Making high level strategic choices for key functionality that can be broadly utilised across projects in the various segments we operate; Industry, Maritime and Oil and Gas.
  • Evaluating 3rd party software needed to utilise to improve efficiency of the team or solutions.
  • Ensuring the right balance of make vs buy is taken at the right time in the development program
  • Identifying and addressing technical risks and challenges
  • Proactively identifying architectural issues within the software and solutions related to matters such as interoperability and performance.
  • Ensuring the software architecture meets industry best practice wrt documentation methods and formatting to provide the development teams with a written reference model.
  • Ensuring the labs have the correct Automation systems installed and test plans are up to date

We are looking for

  • The Software architect will have a minimum of BSc in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in real time software development for industrial control systems
  • Hands-on experience essential, including various programming languages, frameworks and tools.
  • Solid knowledge of software tools for designing and documenting systems inc software profiling tools.
  • Experience in automation of validation systems.
  • Good knowledge of IEC62351 and IEC 62443
  • Good knowledge of industry protocols such as IEC 61850, Profibus, Profinet
  • A deep understanding of software engineering, architecture, interoperability both within a computer and between computers is essential.
  • Expert knowledge on network design, protocols and cyber security is also expected.
  • Experience of software engineering with PLCs utilising IEC61131
  • A great communicator at all levels of a business.
