Role Summary/Purpose

The Principal Engineer - Control Systems drives the development and integration of wind turbine and farm solutions, and creates / drives design processes that meet technology and product needs across the Onshore Wind business. This role contributes to the overall technology and competence strategy, long-term controls system and platform planning & development as well managing complex issues within Onshore Wind controls system design and integration.

Essential Responsibilities

As the Principal Engineer - Control Systems, you will:

·  Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range Wind Turbine / Farm and Energy System control system technology needs
·  Provide technical consultation and leadership on resolving Wind Turbine / Farm control system issues throughout the business including customer, supplier and field support
·  Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art Wind Turbine / Farm control system technology in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs
·  Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues
·  Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters
·  Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs
·  Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
·  Provide formal and informal technical guidance, direction and training to new and experienced engineers; drive definition of Design practices, standards and best practices in product / technology development
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science or equivalent knowledge / experience

·  Significant engineering experience in hardware control system architecture design, including real time operating system, embedded design, communication protocols, I/O systems, smart sensor integration
·  Significant engineering experience in controls system application, design and advanced controls software development, visualization, alarming and human factors
·  Considerable experience in an engineering leadership capacity, preferably in the wind controls space

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

·  EU Work Permit if hired in Spain

Desired Characteristics

·  PhD in Engineering with a Controls specialization or equivalent knowledge / experience

·  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
·  Strong oral and written communication skills
·  Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
·  Problem analysis and resolution skills
·  Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in Wind Turbine / Farm Control System Technology along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within this field
·  Considerable experience in the Wind Industry or R&D space – with demonstrated ability to initiate and lead product or technology development efforts
