OPPORTUNITY

At eBay, we are starting a new chapter in our iconic internet history of being the largest online marketplace in the world. We have more than 800 million listings with 80% of them selling new items, in over 400 markets around the world. The collection of services runs on a significant server and storage infrastructure, and the hardware engineering team is chartered to drive the reliability, efficiency and performance of this layer.

We are looking for a Server Hardware Engineer to join our team to test the performance and reliability of our servers, with a particular focus on CPU performance, CPU-memory subsystems and memory performance & reliability. This person will interface with internal eBay teams working on cloud and key applications, with CPU and memory technology companies and systems vendors, and finally with other members of the hardware engineering team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance testing of benchmarks and key application workloads.

Performance and reliability testing of servers, own the memory subsystem aspects.

Compare CPU & memory technologies by bring up, debug and testing of prototypes.

Configure and tune BIOS and OS parameters.

Contribute tests to hardware automation framework and debug results.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Desired 1+ years of experience which may be met with a combination of industry and academic work.

BS EE/CE or CS required, MS EE/CE or CS is desirable

Must have first hand exposure to CPU and memory systems at an advanced level

Deep familiarity with the BIOS configurations, memory allocation and scheduling in OS.

Scripting in Bash, Python or similar scripting languages, working knowledge of C/C++ and Java for application testing

Server system validation for performance and reliability.

Demonstrated oral & written communications

Bonus: BIOS development experience, exposure to testing BMCs

Bonus: Exposure to automated test & development systems using Python

Position based in San Jose, CA with minimal travel required.
