Role Summary
Joining the pioneering UK Core Deliver Client Build Centre in Chorley to provide Microsoft Web technologies expert advice and development of new Midrange/Unix services and innovative solutions.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
· Design and build of Midrange environments
· Work to Project milestone thresholds
· Working proactively to ensure problems do not occur through automation, monitoring and optimising performance.
· Build for operations, implement/administer midrange systems and hardware that are consistently stable, reliable and requirements. Resolve defects prior to handing over to BAE operations teams
· Liaise with various other multi-disciplined IT support teams to create appropriate knowledge
· Liaise with 3rd party vendors where appropriate
· Learn the Production Integration Process and assume responsibilities for ensuring a smooth transition for relevant projects from development to production.
· Provide SME level advice and consultancy on solution design, critical problem areas, training and related areas.
· Agile project delivery: working closely with Project Management, technical development team and Technical Architects
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
· AIX experience
· Sun Solaris experience including 8 & 9 branded zones with Solaris 10 containers
· Red Hat Linux engineering experience
· High Performance Computing (HPC) experience
· OVM experience
· Platform as a Service experience
· Infrastructure as Code, utilising open source including GitHub
· Utilising automation tooling including Ansible
· Ability to problem solve in complex scenarios under pressure within deadlines and budgets
· Actively seeks out and learns new technology skills
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
· Storage solutions including HDS, EMC, NetApp & Storage Array
· Configuration of SAN environments & VMWare
· Implementing Back Up solutions including Avamar
· Red Hat certification
· MCSE Microsoft certifications or equivalent
· VCP VMware certifications or equivalent
· Experience or working knowledge of whole system stack including Oracle
· Experience of HP-UX
· Knowledge of Sun LDOMs
· Experience of supporting Microsoft Exchange

· Out of hours and weekend work may be required.
