The Travel Intelligence division offers products and solutions based on the data produced by airlines, travel agencies and other actors in this industry. The volume of data is huge, messy but contains invaluable insights that only a diverse team of data scientists and engineers can discover.

You will work in the Data Science & Development team in Madrid, a group of 10 people from academic, research and industry backgrounds, who come from Spain, France, Romania, Croatia, Ukraine, Netherlands and Greece.

As a Data Engineer , you will develop and deploy Big Data solutions on the Travel Intelligence platform, combining Hadoop , Spark , Cloudera Impala , writing code in Scala , Python , and transforming a bulk of messy data onto knowledge that can be consumed via web.

You will work with airlines, travel agencies and other customers distributed across the globe. You may work developing a new solution on Spark for an online travel agency based in Asia, or deploying a Big Data solution for an airline in South America, or investigating the most recent Big Data technologies to make our products even better. The work we do is as diverse as we are, and you will have many opportunities to learn different technologies and customer segments .

Amadeus is home to data engineers, data scientists and developers of all kinds, based in different sites around the world . In Travel Intelligence, we regularly meet together in informal workshops , in different parts of the world (so far we have organized workshops in Madrid; Nice, France; Munich, Germany and Split, Croatia), to learn together more about technology, other departments in Amadeus and the travel industry.

Job skills

In your job as data engineer, you will use:

· Windows as corporate operating system, and Linux as your daily work operating system, writing, maintaining and using shell scripts
· Hadoop and Spark, writing code in Scala
· Cloudera Impala, to load and query huge distributed databases using SQL
· Git, with Github and Bitbucket, to write software in coordination with in a team distributed across the globe
· JIRA and Confluence, our corporate team working tools
· MediaWiki, to update and extend the Travel Intelligence wiki, a vast source of information with lots of interesting contents about Amadeus and the travel industry

You will be working in a company that is the largest travel industry investor in R&D in Europe with amulticultural environment, using English as the primary language (but we speak many other languages too!). You will be incontact with many other teams in our department and across Amadeus: sales, marketing, product management, solution management, customer support; facing and meeting customers in new implementations and deployments; with lots of opportunities to develop your skills further thanks to the access to an excellent training catalogue , plus regular specific trainings our team organizes for data scientists and data engineers

What we are looking for

· Education : you have been studying to become an engineer? A physicist? A mathematician? Anything related to sciences or engineering? Or do you have a master in data science or data engineering? Tell us more about your degrees. At Amadeus, we value people that hold a PhD and we would love to hear about your research.
· You have 3-5 years working as a software engineer , big data developer or similar role, either in industry, at university (research groups, or similar tasks) or in other environments (open source projects, or similar experiences).
· We are looking for people who are eager to learn new languages, technologies, with a proven track of being a fast learner. Let’s be honest, finding people with the exact match of skills we need is going to be nearly impossible. So show us what you have done and what you have learnt in your work experience
· Include any relevant experience you have accumulated in industry or in your previous positions
· You don’t have much experience in industry? Worry no more: do you have a profile in Github? Or StackOverflow? Or similar sites? We would love to have a look!
· Don’t know Scala/Impala/whatever yet? That’s not a problem, you will learn it with us.
