Description of the job

The Flight Physics centre of competence is a trans-national organization, responsible for the non-specific design activities that are used for the detailed design of the aircraft components. Within Flight Physics in Spain there are four areas: Aerodynamics, Loads and Aeroelastics, Mass Properties and Flight Physics capabilities.

·  Aerodynamics: Primarily responsible for designing aerodynamic surfaces, developing the aircraft configuration and characterising the aerodynamic behaviour of the aircraft around the flight envelope.
·  Loads and Aeroelastics:This department calculates the loads that the aircraft will experience on ground and in flight, at the most extreme conditions that could be encountered. The team develop and apply models to simulate the behaviour of the aircraft and are responsible for ensuring aircrafts are free from aeroelastic instabilities within the flight envelope.
·  Mass Properties: Responsible for tracking and predicting aircraft weight, working with design teams to achieve the optimum weight for an aircraft component.
·  Methods and Tools: Responsible for developing and validating capabilities supporting Flight Physics disciplines: with main focus in Spain in the areas of forecasting component aircraft weight and computational fluid dynamics post processing.

Flight Physics is looking for talented, motivated people, with at least 3 years academic study completed and a strong interest in a career in the aerospace industry to come into these teams. Work type can vary by team, with each team working on multiple projects, but the majority of Flight Physics activities are focused on current development projects (e.g. A350XWB), aircraft evolutions (e.g. A330neo), research programmed and capability development

A typical internship will comprise of a main project that will run for the length of the placement, on a topic relevant to that teams activities, with additional shorter tasks to give exposure to a range of work. Support is readily provided from within the team, but an intern will be expected to take ownership of their tasks and be proactive, engaging with colleagues and managers wherever required.

Successful applicants will possess a good technical knowledge of aeronautical fundamentals and analytical ability, able to apply knowledge to unfamiliar problems, but also proactively, teamwork and communication skills.
