Job description

Solvay is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.

Solvay is a multi-specialty chemical company committed to developing chemistry that addresses key societal challenges. We innovate and partner with customers in diverse global end markets. Technology Solutions is a global leader in specialty mining reagents, phosphine-based chemistry, and solutions for stabilization of polymers. We are also a major player in phosphorus derivatives. The portfolio includes world class, leading-edge technologies and unrivalled technical service and applications expertise that support our customers in developing tailored solutions.

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

The analytical scientist in this position carries out polymer Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC) with light scattering (LS) and intrinsic viscometer (IV) detectors; and small molecule separations (liquid and gas chromatography; LC/GC) in combination with mass spectroscopy (MS; quadrupole and high resolution time-of-flight) analyses. Utilizing these techniques, the scientist will perform polymer molecular weight and conformation analysis, elucidate the structure of small molecules and their impurity profiles. This scientist collaborates closely with synthetic and applications scientists in innovation projects across Technology Solutions. A strong background in polymer chemistry and organic chemistry is a plus in collaborating with the synthetic groups. The researcher in this position needs to develop a deep understanding of other characterization techniques and the technologies of TS in order to coordinate analytical work for innovation projects.  This scientist may also need to train and supervise junior scientists as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·  Polymer characterization using Size Exclusion Chromatography (SEC), light scattering (LS) and intrinsic viscometer (IV) detectors.
·  Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry analyses. Method development and validation.
