Job description



Siemens Mobility Limited are currently recruiting for a Plant & Facilities Engineer for their Rolling Stock Business, primarily based at Ardwick, Manchester. The Plant and Facilities Engineer is responsible for the completion of facility inspections and evaluating related operational, environmental and safety issues and procedures.

You will coordinate internal and/or external resources to develop facility layouts/specifications or complete facility-related programmes/processes.

You will, alongside your line manager, develop and implement maintenance, rework and repair strategies and implement new procedures as ell as managing subcontractors on site and reviewing depot work packages.

What are my responsibilities?

Maintenance/ Repair

·  Undertake maintenance, inspection, and repair of depot plant in accordance with the agreed maintenance regime defined on the Maintenance Management System, including scheduling new tasks in accordance with statutory legislation as applicable.
·  Check the facilities performance using the Building Management System on a daily basis for any alarms and rectify as applicable.
·  Carry out regular weekly walk rounds of the site to identify any facility asset deterioration and report / repair as applicable.
·  Ensure spares are identified / managed in line with materials required to comply with the agreed maintenance regime.
·  Ensure that the planned maintenance is carried out in accordance with the asset maintenance plan and that any contractor maintenance is handed back in correct condition and asset maintenance system updated to reflect work done or carried out.
·  Conduct regular walks of the areas where work is taking place.
·  Record results of such walks/tours where audit programmes are running.

Depot Improvements

·  Using Lean and continuous improvement methodologies, identify opportunities for improvement and efficiency within own area, scoping and delivering a range of continuous improvement projects as agreed with line manager, ensuring the benefits are captured and shared with other depots.
·  Recommends solutions and potential resources to implement improvements to Environmental Health & Safety issues/challenges.

Documentation

·  Produce risk assessments and job procedures for all activities in line with the agreed maintenance regime.
·  Maintain all contracted maintenance work records.

Health, Safety & Environment

·  Implement safe systems and controls within your area of responsibility.
·  Understand, implement and comply with the Siemens Rolling Stock HSEW policies.
·  Communicate health and safety responsibilities to your team and ensure employees raise issues and participate in implementation of agreed changes by participating and engaging in RL behavioural safety agenda to ensure you and your team work safely.
·  Take care to avoid acts and omissions that may have an environmental impact.

Resource/People Management

·  Procure and manage the use of subcontractors where required to support the carrying out of maintenance and repair.
·  Ensure subcontractors are appropriately inducted and briefed and follow Siemens company procedures on-site.
·  Demonstrate competence in all of the Siemens Management Standards.
·  Role Model behaviour and values consistent with Siemens Values, Siemens Rolling Stock Behavioural Partnership and Siemens Business Conduct Guidelines.
·  Develop a high performance culture with strong employee engagement using the Siemens People Management policies and tools (objective setting, appraisal and development plan, Succession planning, Recognition etc.)
·  Implement learning and development solutions to develop talent and enhance capability in the team
·  Place employee safety and wellbeing at the forefront of your tema management activities.

What do I need to qualify for the role?

Essential

·  Leadership experience.
·  Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
·  Strong organization/planning skills Proven experience in plant and facilities maintenance.
·  A minimum City & Guilds or BTEC National qualification or equivalent in a mechanical/electrical engineering discipline.
·  Electrical wiring competency in accordance with the current amendment of BS 7671:2008.
·  Experience in fault finding, knowledge of IT and the ability to understand and interpret drawings and wiring diagrams is necessary.
·  Driving licence as the ability to travel to outstation sites is essential.
·  Background in managing resource – direct people management and management of contract resource.
·  Advanced Health & Safety knowledge – understanding of the relevant legislation and in particular experience of carrying out risk assessments.
·  Basic understanding of plumbing.

Preferred

·  Gas Safety registered.
·  Experience of maintaining air conditioning units.
·  IOSH Managing safely to be able produce and approve depot work packages.
