The Engineer II will join a team of subject matter experts within the Global Technical Service Engineering Department in Lake Forest, CA. This is a hands-on position in which the Engineer II will design, build prototypes, and develop new electrical and/or mechanical test equipment for service personnel and provide ongoing engineering support to all departments within the organization. The successful candidate for this role will have a broad product lifecycle experience, from development to operation and maintenance, for complex products containing hardware and software components. The position also requires developing test automation tools and/or application software to analyze performance data. In this highly visible role, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, innovative problem solving and analytical skills, and be committed lead or support improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:
•Design, prototype, and develop new test equipment or upgrade existing test fixtures for local repair shop, global service centers, technical support engineers, field service engineers, and/or clinical team
•Provide expert engineering support and technical issue resolution to all departments within Alcon Global Technical Services organization.
•Provide engineering support to the maintenance of all test equipment used within the organization
•Support new product introduction into local repair shop and global service centers
•Plan and coordinate validation activities, including developing protocols, for new or the upgrade of existing test equipment/fixtures
•Monitor and support the validation execution through technical guidance, problem-solving activities, and training, if needed
•Ensure technical document accuracy and integrity to meet regulatory/company standards
•Contribute to new or the upgrade of existing product designs by conducting product performance analysis and generating technical services requirements
•Collaborate with R&D to ensure technical services requirements on serviceability, maintainability, and remote access connectivity are captured in new product designs
•Support or spearhead global technical service organization process improvement initiatives
•Design and develop software applications to meet product service or process improvement needs
•Interface extensively with QA, local repair shop, global service centers, R&D, manufacturing, technical support engineers, field service engineers, and clinical team.
•Ensure project deadlines are met

Minimum requirements

Minimum Education:
BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Preferred Education:
MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Minimum Experience:
•2 years of related experience.
•Hands-on experience in the design and validation of products with hardware and software components
•Experience working under the V model
•Demonstrated experience in writing software scripts to test and/or analyze performance, preferably at the application level
•Ability to travel 10%

Preferred Experience:
•4 years of engineering experience.
•Computer-assisted surgical systems
•Laser and optical product experience a plus
•Development experience using Python, Java, or C/C++
•SCADA, IOT experience
