The Autoimmunity, Transplantation and Inflammation (ATI) Disease Area at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Basel is seeking a creative and collaborative bioinformatics scientist / computational biologist / biomedical data scientist to join the ATI Bioinformatics team.
Our team provides translational bioinformatics expertise and support to clinical and preclinical drug discovery programs targeting autoimmune diseases and chronic inflammation. We integrate and analyze internal and public biomedical data to enable strategies for patient stratification, biomarker discovery, target identification and disease understanding.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Analysis and integration of different types of omics data including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics;
- Functional interpretation of results of omics experiments including pathway and gene set enrichment analysis, identification of clusters or network modules, generation and comparison of signatures, correlation with clinical endpoints and phenotypic features;
- Application of biostatistics and machine learning methods including regression, classification, supervised and unsupervised learning to molecular and clinical datasets;
- Leadership and management of scientific projects in a matrix organization, close interactions with experimental biologists, computational scientists and external collaborators;
- Present your work internally and externally, contribute to manuscripts preparation, attend scientific conferences and remain up-to-date with the relevant literature.

Desired profile
Minimum requirements
- PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, biostatistics, biomedical informatics or a related field with 2+ years postdoctoral experience in academia or the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry;
- Excellent knowledge of computational methods for the analysis, integration and interpretation of different types of high-throughput biological data from sequencing and array-based technologies; experience with single-cell genomics is considered a plus;
- Demonstrated experience with the application of supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods to biomedical data; experience with deep learning methods and frameworks is considered a plus;
- Excellent programming, data analysis and data visualization skills in R/Bioconductor; experience with SQL, Python and TIBCO Spotfire are considered a plus;
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix command line and high-performance computing environments;
- Sound understanding of biology and immunology; experience in working with autoimmune diseases and/or in translational/clinical research is preferred.
- Excellent track record of publications in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
