Summary

Responsible for providing electrical engineering expertise to support the site's electrical infrastructure through optimization, troubleshooting, project management, design, installation, commissioning, start-up, and validation skills. Efforts focus on providing long-term support for the operation and maintenance of existing facilities with respect to the electrical power generation and distribution systems. The incumbent serves as the owner of the electrical systems and the electrical business process.

Job Responsibilites

Essential

·  Owner of the site electrical business process which provides direction for maintaining the electrical infrastructure.
·  Works under very general supervision and guidance, with more detailed instructions on new assignments. Works with manager to establish priorities and timelines.
·  Uses judgment and discretion to solve a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity. Seeks guidance from supervisor and more senior peers as needed when determining appropriate courses of action. Regularly exercises independent judgment and discretion regarding matters of significance.
·  Research, design, test and install electrical apparatus, components and equipment.
·  Plan, direct and coordinate activities in the operation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and systems.
·  Serve as electrical system owner and primary technical consultant by providing electrical engineering expertise, direction, and work oversight to contractors, vendors and suppliers.
·  Develop plans, identify timelines and oversee work for all major, long-term Electrical Engineering projects including new facility construction or remodeling ventures.
·  Review schematics, plans and procedures and make recommendations to management for equipment selection, design, installation, commissioning, and validation. Upon approval, coordinate and/or conduct activities required to implement recommendations.
·  Support Safety, Process Engineering, Automation, Maintenance and Facilities on electrical and utility related issues by providing technical expertise and assistance for trouble shooting and projects as needed.
·  Provide support for selecting, installing, operating, and troubleshooting instruments and controls associated with utility systems which may include fire protection.
·  Collaborate with engineering staff to prepare controlled documents in support of the start-up, commissioning, validation and operation of the mechanical/HVAC, electrical and utility systems.
·  Provide assistance with the development of plans, procedures and other requirements necessary to support various projects and initiatives.
·  Oversee electrical and utility systems field installations by conducting routine inspections as necessary.
·  Coordinate and oversee all required activities necessary to support the change control function for electrical and utility systems
·  Collaborate with intradepartmental staff and management to promote electrical and utility systems standardization and quality of all corporate projects.

Supplementary Responsibilities

·  Assist engineering manager in developing electrical design standards.
·  Attend and participate in department and team meetings.
·  Attend classes and/or seminars to maintain current knowledge of company policies/ procedures, new technologies and industry trends.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

·  BS degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 2-4 years experience
·  or MS degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 0-2 years experience
·  Licensed as an engineer in training or professional engineer (preferred)
·  0-4 years applicable electrical engineering experience.
·  0 to 4 years in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry/ GMP experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

·  Experience applying National Electric Code, California Electric Code in design, installation, construction and/or operation of clean manufacturing facilities.
·  Demonstrate familiarity with electrical systems operation, safety, and maintenance for (main distribution switchgear, self- generation (15 kV emergency generators, solar PV, fuel cell), site distribution medium to low voltage, UPS, automatic transfer switches, and control for pharmaceutical facilities.
·  Demonstrate competency and understanding of the principles of NAPA 70E and NFPA 70B.
·  Construction project management experience
·  Establishing construction, manufacturing or installation standards or specifications by performing a wide range of detailed calculations.
·  Familiar with Siemens building automation systems.
·  Troubleshooting and programing experience with PLC/ SCADA systems.
·  Knowledge of cGMP guidelines and familiarity in working with controlled documents.
·  Proficient in reading, editing and creating engineering documents (circuit diagrams, single lines, loop drawings, panel schedules, system architecture, technical reports and specifications)
·  Knowledge of arc flash, breaker coordination, short circuit analysis to maintain, modify or design complex electrical and utility systems, and the principles of IEEE 1584
·  Demonstrate good organizational and time-management skills.
·  Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with individuals of various backgrounds and levels of technical expertise.
·  Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
·  Ability to work in a fast-paced environment including the ability to adapt to changing priorities as necessary to achieve department and corporate goals within established timelines.
·  Ability to communicate technical issues to a diverse group, ranging from process scientists to field technicians.
·  Demonstrate the ability to make decisions using excellent business and technical judgment.
·  Ability to invest time, as required, to expedite or complete assignments as necessary to meet business demands.
·  Ability to comply with cGMP requirements to work in clean manufacturing spaces, i.e., gowning protocols, documentation and procedures.
·  Demonstrate proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database, project management and presentation software applications (i.e. MS Office).
·  Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
·  Demonstrate a high-degree of analytical and problem-solving skills, with emphasis on very technical issues relating to process controls, building automation systems, and general control theory.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Safety Considerations

·  Work in standard office environment.
·  May work in the clean room environment that requires gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, clean room overalls, gloves and steel toe boots be worn. Also, no make up or jewelry can be worn when working in the clean room environment.
·  When working in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air together this creates a loud environment.
·  May be exposed to hazardous materials and chemicals.
·  Must be aware of the requirements to enter a limited approach boundary around active electrical work
·  May be required to don and doff arc rated PPE and clothing
·  May be required to work at heights greater than 6 feet utilizing appropriate fall protection
·  May be required to work outside and on structure roof areas during inclement weather
