POSITION SCOPE
Lead Design - Think Marriott

Our Global Design Strategies Leader will be charged with leveraging design as a critical component of innovation to power our current and future brands. This person will be accountable to produce R&D product design and drive innovation of industry-leading design strategies that produce a strong ROI. He/she will craft a strong design system to deliver consistent and engaging experiences with our brands wherever they are in the world. Reporting to the Global Design Officer, this position will have responsibility for an organization of approximately 50 associates and partner closely with key stakeholders such as the Global Brand Officer, Global Operations Officer and Global Design Continent Leaders.


EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

The Global Design Strategies Leader's discipline, business and talent management leadership will also include:

· Establishing innovative, compelling and relevant design strategies that help to define each brand and drive consumer preference and portfolio profitability.
· Building and developing a sought-after design team who are focused on cultivation of best-in-class global product and experience design.
· Serving as a Company expert on product and experience design (internally and externally) and key point of interface with discipline and continent leaders on design strategies issues.
· Partnering with Brand, Operations, Consumer Insights, Technology with Brand Liaisons and Continents to define and understand customer needs and competitive landscape.
· Gathering and assessing internal and external stakeholder feedback across continents (owners, continent leadership, hotels), and measure against performance metrics.
· Developing and nurturing strategic professional relationships internally and externally to identify/create business opportunities that enhance Marriott's competitive advantage and to stay abreast of competitor, industry, economic, and internal information trends.
· Garnering broad business support for strategic design initiatives.
· Transferring functional knowledge and developing Design acumen of Design Strategies associates.

Our Global Design Strategies Leader will need to be more than a good designer. He/she should be a trailblazer in global product and experience design and contribute to our increasingly digital future. He/she should be a design culture builder, leveraging fluency in the language of experience and immersive design to motivate, and collaborate within Marriott and beyond. In addition to creativity, he/she will also have business savvy and agility to drive the implementation of great ideas or pivot from those that are not promising.

KEY TALENTS AND EXPERIENCE

·  10 or more years in Industrial design or similar field.
·  Deep understanding of product-centric design, and user experience.
·  Experience guiding insight synthesis and identifying emerging opportunities based on a combination of industry analysis, company analysis, stakeholder and subject matter expert input, and trend evaluation.
·  Experience introducing and implementing technologically based ideas, i.e. IoT guestroom; concept through final delivery.
·  Ability to articulate new concepts clearly and in a compelling way.
·  Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
·  Strong ability to present to large and executive level audiences.
·  Experience leading large scale cross discipline projects.
·  Experience leading teams with direct and indirect reporting lines.
·  Change agent.

EDUCATION

·  BS/BA degree in Engineering, Architecture, Industrial Design, or Interior Design required.
