Role Title: Investment Strategist

Business: Retail Banking and Wealth Management

Grade:GCB4

Role Purpose

· The role holder will be part of our Global Investment Strategy Team, led by our Chief Strategist. The team is responsible for global macro and asset allocation research to support investment decision-making, and for creating and delivering thought leadership and market insights for clients and stakeholders.
· The Investment Strategist will conduct a variety of macro and cross-asset class investment strategy research projects, employing a top-down approach. She/He will help develop our House View, as well as contribute to our range of macro and investment strategy communications (e.g. notes, blogs, presentations). The role has significant scope for high business impact and strong career development over time

Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business:
· Conduct global macro and asset class research to support idea generation and contribute to the investment process
· Communicate ideas in a clear and concise manner to different stakeholders, putting the insights in a broader investment and economic context.
· Support the thought leadership work of the team by contributing to team publication series such as House Views, Outlooks, presentations, blogs, and white papers.
· Support regular investment communications for WPB and other key clients (e.g. investment weekly, monthly, macro insights)
· Help maintain in-house and third-party models for long term asset class expected returns, global macro scenarios, and other asset market signals.

· No staff management responsibilities but must be able to work effectively as part of the investment strategy team and a bigger investment team both in UK and globally

· To provide communications that are useful to audiences with a wide range of knowledge and objectives
· To work across different time zones and locations

Role Context
· The role is to be an integrated part of the investment function and the key communication function particularly to WPB but also to other clients and the media.

Management Risk
· Is aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.


Observation of Internal Controls

· Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
· Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy.
· Understand the Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles, HSBC Global Asset Management's TCF philosophy and how this affects your role. Act in a manner that takes account of these principles to ensure fair outcomes for customers

Qualifications :

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications

·  The role requires strong analytical skills and intellectually curiousity for investment markets, mostly likely gained through experience in a buy-side or sell-side investment research role.
·  MSc (or higher) probably in Economics, or a related field. But we would also be interested to hear from candidates with advanced research training in other disciplines, who want to apply their skills to thinking about macro markets
·  Quantitative skills are highly-valued. The role requires working with data, so data analysis and data management skills are important, as well as good knowledge of data systems (eg Bloomberg). We would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates who have experience in data science methods (e.g. NLP)
·  CFA (or similar) is highly desirable
·  Experience in Emerging Markets would be valuable
·  Strong written and communication skills
·  A proven ability to meet deadlines and work collaboratively with others across different parts of the organisation
