HSS IT Product Architect

Big Bank Funding. FinTech Thinking.

Our technology teams in the UK work closely with HSBC's global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. We also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world's leading international bank.

Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps engineers, IT architects, front and back end developers, infrastructure specialists, cyber experts, as well as project and programme managers.

We work in small, agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world from our offices at the Bluefin Building in Southwark, our global headquarters in Canary Wharf, and multiple other locations around the UK including Sheffield, Leeds, Barnsley and Birmingham.

Following extensive investment across our Technology and Digital domains and with plans for continued expansion throughout 2019 and beyond, we are currently seeking an experienced IT Product Architect to join HSBC Technology.


Brief overview of the business areas


The HSS Business is part of HSBC's Global Banking and Markets division (GBM) and comprises three core global products: Custody (including Global Custody, Direct Custody and Treasury); Funds (including Accounting & Valuation, Transfer Agency and Middle Office Services); and Corporate Trust & Loan Agency. HSS is located in 38 countries with circa 8,000 staff and has ambitious strategic plans that require significant ongoing investment.


What you will be doing;

· Architecture strategy – producing product architecture roadmaps to direct overall direction of travel and informing investment decisions for HSS Fund Services.
· Reference architecture – producing reference materials and white papers on specific domain architectures for the benefit of Funds product and the broader HSS organization.
· Strategy roadmaps to include definition of current, transition and horizon state views, taking into account business, data and application landscapes.
· Identify knowledge gaps in HSS architecture and lead definition and appropriate application patterns of resulting candidate technology or platforms e.g. DLT, API, Data Services, Micro Services, Cloud, etc.
· Architecture governance – performing architecture reviews to guide solution design and conform to Group standards and controls e.g. Decision Driven Design (DDD), for HSS Fund Services.
· Supporting recommendations for governance boards e.g. External Hosting Committee (EHC) / Solutions Architecture Board (SAB) / GBM Cost Board / Strategic Architecture Forum (SAF).
· Leading and supporting the definition of architecture governance, including the development of DDD standards and its implementation.
· Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions (Functional Instruction Manuals (FIMs), Group Standards Manuals (GSMs), circulars) and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk and adherence to the Group's standards on ethical behavior.

Qualifications :

What you will bring to the role;

To be successful in this role you should have proven experience within the Technology sector with knowledge of the following skills:

·  Extensive (10 years+) Architecture Leadership experience -- provide numerous examples of business value created by use of a solid architecture strategy.
·  Typical qualifications would include a relevant degree or equivalent and often the role holder will have professional qualifications in a framework like TOGAF.
·  Deep experience in all parts of the technology/software development and project management life-cycles having undertaken many of the roles themselves throughout their career.
·  Proven track record producing high quality technical architecture / design deliverables that deliver tangible business benefits over the medium to long term.
·  Proven experience in managing significant risks and problem resolution.
·  Business and technical expertise in post-trade Securities processing and services is beneficial (e.g. an understanding of the three product areas of HSS and how they inter-relate), if not working in a client connected data driven business.
·  The ability to visualise and create conceptual and logical models that can provide clarity to complex problems and be used in future analysis to extend and mature our architecture.
·  Extensive experience planning and deploying IT initiatives.
·  Proven strategic thinker (particularly technology strategy) and decision maker.

These roles will be Edinburgh based.
