Role Summary/Purpose

The candidate will support GE’s efforts in the integration and testing of real-time, critical systems, hardware and software for Offshore Wind Turbines.
Essential Responsibilities

With a focus on fault tolerant controls: system and fault detection, isolation and diagnosis, controller reconfiguration and design of control algorithms.
Activities will include integration and testing of hardware/software interfaces, fault detection and identification, controller reconfiguration, etc. for implementation of a fault tolerant system. Whose main purpose is to prevent component failures from becoming system level failures. This will require strong collaboration with other areas specially within Performance Subsystem and the Systems Integration team, to ensure high reliability and performance as a function of turbine controls, design elements and turbine operating environment. The scope of this position includes design, implementation, and validation of dynamic and operational control systems that meet product needs.

·  Participate in all phases of Fault Tolerant Systems development from requirements analysis, system and control design and development and finally product sustaining / support

·  Taking design ownership of Fault Tolerant Controls within the Performance department

·  Compile, develop and document requirements for controls features and components

·  Develop Wind Turbine controls strategy for reliability, availability and protection

·  Support product development programs design review discussions and present relevant design details to chief engineers for evaluation and approval

·  Lead and provide key technical direction to Haliade-2 Platform, including technology introduction fault tolerant controls

·  Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in FDI/FTC and reliability guidelines to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs

·  Interface with the GE Renewables Digital organization in defining and building the next generation of turbine analytics that use estimation techniques to turn wind turbine data into customer value

·  System mindset with focus on operability, reliability and failure mode analysis. Contribute to the components and system requirements at functional level

·  Ensure that lessons-learned from field are fed back into the Haliade 2 Platform

·  Support other GE businesses, internal & external customers, and suppliers as required

·  Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers

·  Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs

·  Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company
Qualifications/Requirements

·  Masters of Science in Controls Engineering, Systems Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent knowledge or experience

·  Strong experience in an engineering capacity

·  Experience in design and / or modelling of controls systems, FDI and FTC

·  Well defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization. Ability to program state machines for complex systems and/or processes

·  Experience with state estimation techniques (e.g. EKF)

·  Significant experience with high reliability systems

·  Experience directly leading projects

·  Proficiency in Matlab – Simulink

·  Ability to code in at least one programming language such as C or similar language

·  Good understanding of SW engineering design practices

·  Knowledge of controls related sensors and actuators

·  Creativity and innovation seeking for efficient design solutions to meet customer needs

·  Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy

·  Self-starter, who delivers results with minimal supervision

·  Ability to succeed in a global team environment

·  Fluency in English (spoken and written)

·  EU Work Permit if hired in Spain

·  Willingness to travel occasionally

Desired Characteristics

·  Broad technical knowledge of wind turbines

·  Knowledge of Wind Turbine Generator physical principles

·  Strong oral and written communication skills

·  Problem analysis and resolution skills

·  Prior experience with fault tolerant computing and/or spacecraft or safety critical avionics is a plus

·  Proven ability to design fault tolerant systems with error handling and recovery

·  Exposure to probabilistic modeling techniques for overall system reliability predictions such as:

·  Failure Modes and Effect and Criticality Analysis (FMEA/FMECA)

·  Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)

·  Reliability Block Diagram analysis (RBD)
