Role Summary/Purpose

The Vandalia Machinist will build prototype parts and mechanisms for new machines or improvements in existing machines as well as support shop operations.  We currently have openings on 3rd Shift working from 10:00pm-6:30am. 
Essential Responsibilities

·  Make simple jigs and fixtures from part prints
·  Operate a variety of machine tools with a high degree of skill
·  Perform setup and operation of CNC machines: lathe, grinder, and mill
·  Apply advanced knowledge of mechanisms and machine operations
·  Make parts from blueprints to close tolerances
·  Read and complete forms and generate meaningful reports and charts
·  Produce error-free products
·  Keep all machinery, tools, and work areas clean
·  Maintain an excellent record of attendance and punctuality
·  Work in a team-based environment
·  Make decisions based on experience and available data
·  Accept and give constructive criticism
·  Maintain a positive attitude
·  Demonstrate an ambition to excel and advance in skills and knowledge
·  Conform to all EHS guidelines including, but not limited to, wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE)

·  Successful candidate may be required to take classes in team building
·  Successful candidate may be required to complete on-the-job training to learn specific assignments
·  Successful candidate may be required to take basic safety courses, including training on personal protective equipment (PPE), chemical hazards, mechanical hazards, evacuation and emergency response training, lock out/tag out (LOTO), hazard recognition, electrical safety, etc.
·  Work in an environment with moderate noise intensity (85 to 89.9 dBa) and areas where hearing protection is required
·  Work in an environment where, due to normal machining operations, there may be dust, fumes, or smoke (not over OSHA Permissible Exposure Levels)
·  Lift up to 25 pounds repetitively, occasionally lift up to 35 pounds non-repetitively, and sometimes lift over 35 pounds with assistance

Qualifications/Requirements

·  High school diploma or GED
·  Must have at least 2 years of experience as an experimental mechanic or tool and die maker or have completed at least 2 years of trade/vocational school or apprenticeship program that included training in machining and tool and die making
Eligibility Requirements:

·  Able and willing to read and understand applicable information such as written instructions, procedures and specifications that apply to daily work operations
·  Able and willing to practically apply basic math calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions, decimals, and whole numbers)
·  Able and willing to practically apply basic concepts of geometry and trigonometry
·  Able and willing to compute numerical conversions to and from the metric system
·  Able and willing to read blueprints
·  Able and willing to solder and braze
·  Possess basic knowledge of assembly and inspection methods
·  Possess basic computer skills

Desired Characteristics

·  5 years of experience as an experimental mechanic, tool and die maker
·  3 years of experience in machining, including setup and operation of manual mills, lathes, cutters, and grinders
·  Possess basic knowledge of principles of metal rule dies
·  Possess basic knowledge of CAD software
