Role Summary/Purpose
The Performance & Operability team is seeking a Performance Engineer to support and lead wind and performance characterization efforts in the Loads and Controls organization. He/she will drive technology projects to improve wind and performance modeling, characterization and sensing efforts to improve our accuracy and certainty of the wind fuel from turbine level to farm level.
Essential Responsibilities
He/she will support technology and methods insertion into the Segment teams, and grow to work directly with the Chief’s Office and Commercial teams.
The outcomes delivered by this role will form an integral part of the wind product, design and commercial processes. This is a global engineering role where the scope includes design, implementation, and validation of a broad range of technologies and methods.
Essential Functions:
• Analyze and improve wind models used for turbine performance & loads assessment. Support definition of wind regime classes and drive application thereof into turbine design and application processes.
• Participate in technology projects at the intersection of controls strategy and wind characteristics
• Interface with the GE Renewables Digital organization in defining and building the next generation of wind and turbine analytics that use estimation techniques to turn wind turbine data into customer value.
• Investigate and analyze complex controls & performance issues occurring in the fleet of installed turbines and develop corrective actions.
• Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Loads and Controls methodology and simulation infrastructure.
Qualifications/Requirements
· MSc. in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace or Wind) or Fluid/Thermal Sciences from an accredited University with specialization in Fluid Dynamics or related field
· First Experience with Wind Turbine Technology
· Excellent communication skills paired with the desire for continuous learning and tackling of challenging problems
· Demonstrated statistics and data analytics skills
· Experience with Matlab or a comparable software tool
Desired Characteristics
· Experience in analysis of complex flow phenomena from measurements in atmospheric boundary layers or other turbulent flows
· Experience with working in multinational teams
· Experience with aero-elastic wind turbine simulation tools such as Fast, Flex, or Bladed and/or with wind resource assessment methods and tools
