Role Summary/Purpose

As a DevOps engineer your role would to be to provide support to our core development teams with issues with server environments both at the infrastructure layer as well and the applications framework level along with the enhancement of our existing processes. This can be a very fast paced position at times and can involve a lot of context switching as no two challenges are the same.

This year-long internship will begin July 2020.
Essential Responsibilities

Our site is predominantly a software development and support business , specialising in providing high quality electrical grid management tools for an extensive range of companies, some of which include UKPN, SSE or Scottish Power, but there are many more dispersed throughout Europe and across the globe.

As well as the above you will have the opportunity to do green field development work in the world of automation within our continuous integration systems, to help bring some of our older processes up to “state of the art technology stacks”, this will include work with deployment framewor ks such as Chef and Job scheduling via Jenkins along with containerisation using docker and it is expected a wide range of knowledge of software support, development and automation of the software life cycle will be acquired through this experience.

·  Involvement in supporting Software Development of our ADMS products

·  This may involve developing code and testing support frameworks ( Test driven development )

·  Working internal projects to enhance our products or incorporating features that will enrich the environment frameworks to be more effective and efficient

·  Assisting with tools to improve deployment of the product to improve customer experience

Qualifications/Requirements

Studying towards Degree in Software Development or Software Engineering

Desired Characteristics

Knowledge of the some of the following is welcome (mentoring and on-the-job training will be provided, as long as there’s a passion to learn): Oracle or database knowledge, Git, Github, Jira, Ruby, Shell scripting, Chef , Dockerisation, Jenkins, Continuous integration and deployment and good understanding of operating systems ( Linux / Windows )
