Job description

Job Summary:

The Escalation & Project Support Engineer will provide support of a complex nature for the firm's server environment, associated hardware and operating systems. This professional should possess deep knowledge of Linux, Windows and VMware operations practices as well as good hardware and infrastructure experience. This position requires in-depth knowledge of the firm's infrastructure to resolve complex incidents and problems and to provide a stable and reliable infrastructure. The key tasks would be related to the analysis for not only root causes of incidents but providing directions for lasting solutions.

 

Essential Functions of the Job: 

Provides support for infrastructure services hardware, operating system, and software platforms

Incident, service request, changes and problem work (ITIL based)

Hardware :

·  Analysis of issues occurring during Firmware/Driver upgrade through Systems Management Software (OMSA/OME) to optimize processes.
·  Provide advanced Troubleshooting on hardware and performance issues.
·  Deep Knowledge of DELL Server Hardware & Blade technology (incl. coordination with Vendor)

Microsoft Windows Server :

·  Main contact person for any OS related L3 escalations, responsible to escalate & coordinate any Vendor involvement
·  Technical assistance & guidance on P1S1 & Major Problem investigations
·  Analysis and providing proposals for Configuring and Hardening of Windows 2003, 2008(R2) & 2012R2 Servers
·  Advanced OS performance and security analysis & troubleshooting
·  Level 3 skills on configuring and troubleshooting of MS Distributed file systems and Replication and Namespace - DFS & DFS-R
·  Level 3 skills on configuring and troubleshooting of MS Clusters - Failover cluster management and geo clusters
·  Advanced troubleshooting on NTFS File systems migrations, extensions, expansions & shrinks
·  Experienced on system/Server recovery (Disaster Recovery)
·  Create and generate SCCM hardware and software inventory reports
·  Scripting and automation of repetitive Server Administration tasks & activities (Visual Basic, Batch, WMI and PowerShell).
·  Work along with Solution Services to define and re-engineer Windows Server standards

Storage :

·  Understanding on SAN, NAS and DAS arrays
·  Knowledge on multipath and iSCSI technologies
·  Advanced troubleshooting on issues with logical volumes, storage reservations and LUN assignments

VMware vCenter :

·  Performance analysis and resource monitoring of guest systems
·  Generate and analyze vFoglight Reports to understand underlying capacity and performance issues
·  Constant feedback and collaboration with Cloud & Virtualization Services Team

Technical writing :

·  Creation and modification of work instructions, technical reference manuals and procedures documentation.
·  Develop process improvement plans
·  Analysis of Server build and decommission process  (Change-Tasks)
·  Review technical documents and KB articles created by the rest of the team

Ticketing (Service Now)

·  Ownership and coordination of all Problem investigations
·  Planning and coordination of complex Changes
·  Review of team’ incidents to ensure quality

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

·  Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and be able to prioritize assignments.
·  Ability to work and team with a multitude of different people across teams, regions and organizations
·  Ability to deal efficiently with escalations and difficult situations/people under pressure, such as restoring services

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:

·  Large scale Windows Systems Administration experience (Windows 2003/2008/2012 Servers)
·  Understanding of virtualization with VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V
·  Understanding of public and private cloud solutions like Microsoft Azure and VMware vCAC
·  Understanding of enterprise antivirus
·  Understanding of enterprise data backup
·  Experience in maintaining mission critical production systems running in a data center environment
·  Experience in automation and orchestration
·  Excellent knowledge of DELL Server & Blade technology
·  Basic experience in server OS Patch management (WSUS and SCCM)
·  RCA for critical Incidents and Problems
·  Excellent analytical skills
·  Takes ownership of problems and/or issues and ensures timely updates leading to resolution
·  Proactively identifies opportunities for improvement of the computing environment
·  Understanding of IP protocols, networking and domain administration (objects, OU, group policies, replication, trust, etc.).
·  Experience in working with diverse and geographically dispersed teams
·  Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
·  Flexibility and initiative to anticipate customers and internal team needs
·  Strong working knowledge in ITIL Service Management systems such as Service Now, Remedy, etc.
·  Ability to work and team effectively with clients, management and  team members
·  Proactive, self-driven and organized
·  Able to prioritize tasks, multitasking
·  Demonstrates commitment to comply and document IT methodologies, processes and standards
·  Ability to work with minimal supervision
·  Mentor junior server specialists
·  Ability to perform under pressure

Education :

A degree in Computer Science/Management or  related discipline, or equivalent work experience

Experience :

·  Microsoft Windows Server 2003/2008 / 5 yrs.
·  Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5/6/7 / 5 yrs.

VMware ESX Virtual Center - vSphere / 1 yr

Certification Requirements :

·  Microsoft MCP / MCSA / MCSE / MCITP
·  Red Hat Certification

Desirable Certifications:

·  ITIL Foundations v3
