The Role: Power Transmission Analyst

Purpose
Engie North America Asset Optimization (“ENA AO”) is looking for a Power Transmission Analyst to develop and maintain ENA AO’s platform for power system study and market simulation in North America, and to support short- and long-term commercial activities.

Essential Job Functions
·  Develop and maintain ENA AO’s platform for power system study and market simulation in North America
·  Customize/Optimize SCUC/SCED (Security Constrained Unit Commitment and Economic Dispatch) models from venders such as UPLAN, DAYZER and PROMOD to the need of ENA AO
·  Utilize database/programming/spreadsheet techniques to streamline the input and output of SCUC/SCED models
·  Communicate the model output to various functional groups and senior management
·  Train other members to the tools and ensure business continuity by putting in place the relevant procedures and back-up
·  Perform power system analysis to support short-term trading activities
·  Run SCUC/SCEC models on to support trading for Financial Transmission Right and short-term power
·  Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to determine the risks and opportunities of portfolios
·  Perform power system analysis to support long-term fundamental research, deal valuation, and business development opportunities
·  Utilize Generation and Transmission Expansion Model to study the evolution of power grid due to renewable penetration, battery development and coal/nuclear retirement
·  Implement various scenarios of power grid topology in SCUC/SCED models to support the fundamental analysis on long-term electricity market
·  Support traders, originators and structurers on valuation of structured transactions. Evaluate basis risk associated with renewable projects and its implication in market and credit exposures
·  Oversee external consultants and due diligence of congestion and basis studies
·  Manage and coordinate the activities of external consultants running congestion studies for renewable project development
·  Provide alternate scenarios and assumptions for study parameters
·  Critically evaluate SCED results and consultant prognosis

Requirements

·  Experience with physical modeling of large-scale power system including power flow solution algorithm and techniques
·  Experience with economic modeling of large-scale power system including unit commitment, economic dispatch and optimal power flow by using commercial package such as UPLAN, DAYZER and PROMOD
·  Working knowledge of market operation and regulatory change in ERCOT, PJM and other North American ISOs
·  Strong database and programing skills to automate the data flow in power system models
·  Entrepreneurial and self-motivated spirit with creative and inquisitive mindset

Essential Physical Abilities

·  Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
·  Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
·  Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy.
·  Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
·  Could involve some lifting.

Education/Experience

·  Master’s in electrical engineering with a focus on Power System Analysis
·  5+ years of experience in power system analysis
