Job description

ENGIE Laborelec is a leading expertise and research centre in electrical power technology. Drawing on the skills of 280 highly specialized engineers and technicians, the company is active on the whole electricity value chain and backs a large set of customers in the fields of generation, transmission, distribution, storage and final use of electricity, with a particular focus upon the energy transition and the 3 Ds - decentralization, decarbonization and digitalization.

All forms of electricity generation come within our capabilities, whether centralized or decentralized, from fossil and nuclear to renewables technologies. Directly or indirectly, we also work for a large array of other customers, including grid operators, large industries, SMEs, cities, regions or residential prosumers.

With a strong focus on high value delivery for our customers, we combine expert knowledge and operational experience with state-of-the-art analysis and measurement capabilities to provide operational research and development services, specialized expertise and tailor-made global solutions. We guarantee the independence and objectivity of our solutions and recommendations.

Established in 1962 to support electricity companies with a wide range of specialized services, Laborelec is today a cooperative company, with ENGIE and independent grid operators as shareholders. Laborelec has a global presence, with activities in more than 60 countries and offices in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Chile and Abu Dhabi.

The department

The energy transition is now more than ever a reality, and is making great demands on power systems. The changes imposed on power network operators, power suppliers and industry are currently the most challenging since this transition began. ENGIE Laborelec, as a leading expertise and research centre in electrical power technology, is at the centre of this exciting evolution and is looking for multiple Senior and Junior Engineer profiles seeking to develop electrical expert careers in the field of electrical power systems (network and power quality, power flow and transient phenomena, compatibility issues, etc.). Opportunities exist in critical electrical networks for industry, utilities (DSOs, TSOs and micro-grid developers), renewable power (hydro, wind and solar, etc.), battery storage, and thermal and nuclear generation worldwide.

Your mission

·  You will be part of the Power Networks expert team;
·  You will carry out projects and power networks studies (simulations, complex electrical measurements, etc.) for both classical grids and micro grids;
·  You will develop laboratory testing and field measurement installations and you will coordinate various monitoring and measurement activities (electrical measurements, both online and offline);
·  You will develop and manage products and services within the relevant domains for customers;
·  You will carry out root cause analysis in ad hoc teams of electrical experts to compile expert reporting on electrical incidents.

·  You are an industrial or civil engineer with a specialization in electricity or in electro-mechanics;
·  You are strongly motivated to develop a high level of expertise in electrical power systems, power electronics and electrical equipment;
·  You have some competences in network dynamics, power quality, EMC, and power electronics, or a willingness to develop further in these areas;
·  You have experience of, and/or the willingness to develop further in, one or more software tools such as Matlab, Phyton, Simulink, Comsol, ANSYS, Opal-RT, NEPLAN and EMTP-RV;
·  You have knowledge of, and/or the willingness to develop further in, communication protocols such as IEC61850, IEC104, Profibus, and RS232;
·  You are committed to project-based working, and to develop further in project management;
·  You have a solid customer focus, a keen awareness of economic and financial impacts and a natural business dynamic to create value for customers;
·  You are imbued with team spirit, initiative and the ability to develop synergies both internally with other competence centres and with external partners, including manufacturers, and universities and other research centres;
·  You are committed to quickly achieve fluency in Dutch, French and English (other languages would also be an advantage);
·  You are in a position to travel for short missions within Belgium, Europe and outside Europe.

Laborelec offers you:
