Global Energy Management (GEM)  is one of ENGIE’s Business Units. We deliver services in supply and logistics management, asset management, risk management, market access management, while contributing to the market understanding, design and efficiency and developing market solutions to accelerate the energy transition.

GEM manages one of the largest and most diversified energy portfolios in Europe, including electricity, natural gas, bulk commodities and environmental products.

With 5 trading platforms and activities in more than 50 countries, GEM has an extended geographical coverage in Europe, Asia-Pacific and in the US. It employs 1,300 people around the world.

Organization:

The Emissions Market Analyst will be attached to the Economic Research (5-members) team whose activities are:

 

- Develop own insights and bring support about markets’ historical and expected evolution.

- Deliver ad-hoc fundamental, statistical and technical analyses, and pro-actively seek innovative solutions to improve sales, traders and business developers performance as well as to help senior managements (of GEM and other ENGIE’s BUs) in their decision making process.

- Provide market analysis reports and services to a defined set of internal and external clients.

- Help support GEM’s ambition to be at the forefront of new markets and product developments.

Role:

Within the Economic Research team, the Emissions Market Analyst will be especially responsible for the analysis of emissions markets.

Main Activities:

The Emissions Market Analyst will specifically have to:

 

·  Build energy market intelligence: research, analysis and synthesis of any information likely to impact energy prices (coverage of all underlying relevant for the ENGIE group).
·  Work on supply/demand models, mainly on emissions, but also on power.
·  Deliver emissions price forecasts to support GEM and ENGIE trading/hedging/marketing activities.
·  Contribute to the development of EnergyScan (the Economic Research digital platform), if possible to the writing of the Python codes.
·  Contribute to the Economic Research publications (Daily, Weekly, Monthly).
·  Make presentations to clients (external and internal).
·  Speak at external conferences to increase GEM’s visibility.

 

The Emissions Market Analyst will work closely with the Gas, Coal and Power Market Analysts with whom he/she will form a gas/coal/emissions/power team.

The Emissions Market Analyst will also need to stay up to date with oil markets and the macro-economic context for client presentations’ purposes.

Education and professional background:

Master degree level in economics / political science / applied mathematics / engineering / finance.

Hard skills:

Fluency in English and French as publications and presentations are mostly in English and sometimes in French. Knowledge of Dutch is a plus.

You have good knowledge of, or the willingness to learn:

-              Excel and Python for data analysis (very large sets of data),

-              Trading charting tools (e.g. Thomson Reuters Eikon or Bloomberg).

Soft skills:

Creative, curious and rigorous, you are pragmatic and able to combine analysis and synthesis.

Comfortable in relationships with others, your (oral and writing) communication skills allow you to be convincing and to adapt to the client’s knowledge of the subject.
