The Job: Business Intelligence Data Engineer

Purpose
The Data Engineer is a member of the ENGIE Resources Business Intelligence team. The team's mission is to enable the business to operate in a networked and transparent manner, where data and expertise are visible and accessible, using a common set of leading-edge tools, processes, and methodologies. The Data Engineer contributes by making data accessible and useful for the business's reporting and analytics needs. The candidate will work closely with colleagues to enable a data driven business. Their expertise will influence decisions made at the highest levels of the company.

Essential Job Functions
·  Manage the analytics and reporting data repository encompassing pipelines, lakes, warehouses, etc. handling data from internal and external sources, ensuring quality, reliability, scalability, and integration with the company's evolving data ecosystem.
·  Participate in and collaborate with stakeholders and subject matter experts on a wide range of activities, including projects, product development, ad-hoc problem solving, and training.
·  Effectively communicate with others regarding concepts, requirements, statuses, challenges, results, etc., providing and soliciting input where pertinent.
·  Build an understanding of the business at a level of detail that enables successful performance of the role and aids in the identification of problems and solutions.
·  Other duties as required.

Requirements

·  Azure experience with, at minimum, Synapse, Data Factory v2 and Data Lake v2. Ability to manage complex Data Factory pipelines and fully utilize Azure Synapse, including Polybase, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
·  Desire to learn and be an effective team member and contributor.

·  Passion for data and analytics that enables business insights and decisions.
·  Drive to seek continuous improvement in processes, systems, and technologies and judgement to evaluate when change is worthwhile.

·  Agile thinker who is organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage, understand, validate, and relate data from disparate sources.
·  Ability to manage multiple workstreams, either as a sole contributor or in collaboration with internal or external teams, including the ability to assess and prioritize tasks and react to requests – independently, if necessary.
·  Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Physical Abilities

·  Could involve some lifting.

Education/Experience

·  Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or other systems-oriented or quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
·  Degree required but can be substituted with additional relevant years of experience. Ex. Without degree will require minimum 9 years of relevant work experience.
·  5-7 years of experience; industry related experience preferred.
·  Experience developing and managing data pipeline, lake, warehouse, and/or other storage solutions, and manipulating large and complex data sets.
·  Minimum 1 year of experience designing, building, and managing Microsoft Azure data pipelines (Data Factory) and resulting stores (ADLS, Azure Synapse Analytics).
·  Minimum 3 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL) and Oracle Database (PL/SQL), including creating stored procedures, complex joins, query optimization, performance tuning, etc.
·  Experience with data science technologies such as Azure ML and Databricks, DataRobot, SalesForce Einstein, etc.
·  Experience with Agile or similar software development and team collaboration tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, or Microsoft Teams is a plus.
·  Experience with SalesForce, Oracle Siebel, Microsoft Power BI, and Microsoft Excel is a plus.
·  Experience in Electricity, Natural Gas, Business Intelligence, or Finance is a plus.
