To contribute to EDF Group Open Innovation dynamics and to develop innovative businesses in Europe, we are hiring starting in March or April 2020 for a duration of 1 year preferably to be extended one more year, a “Volontaire International en Entreprise (V.I.E.)” according to the Business France rules (French government agency, that you could contact in their German office in Dusseldorf or at Vie.allemagne@businessfrance.fr).

The position is based in Berlin, Germany, within the EDF Deutschland office.
The objective is to identify relevant startups and build qualified opportunities and projects directly or with local or international partners.
Major player of the energy transition, EDF has a presence on the whole energy value chain and beyond. World leader of low carbon energy, EDF has developed a diversified low carbon generation mix around nuclear, hydro and other renewable energies. EDF Group serves energy and services to 40 millions of customers, mostly in Europe. The Group had 69 billions Euros of revenues in 2018, 40% outside of France.
The VIE will be involved in the activities of two teams working together:
1. Innovation-to-Business network, with colleagues from Open Innovation (EDF Pulse Explorer), team born in 2009, having currently two direct colleagues in Berlin plus one in Madrid and one in Moscow, and also present in Beijing, San Francisco, Paris, plus innovation colleagues from London, Brussels, Milano. With a mission to bring to the business units and subsidiaries of EDF Group qualified opportunities of innovative business.
2. Europe Business Solutions and EDF Deutschland, which supports the existing business lines in Germany with thousands of employees and develops more business and innovative business in Germany.

The mission of the VIE consists of :
Open Innovation
1. Sourcing of innovative solutions that could be applied to existing or future operational activities of EDF in particular in the fields of renewables, electric mobility, storage, urban services, customer engagement and services. A special focus will be on BENELUX countries, the other two colleagues in Berlin office covering DACH for one, Nordic and Baltic for the other. Work and engage directly with startups to investigate and assess technology or business model.

2. Exploration with other team members of EDF Pulse Explorer of more transverse or disruptive innovation topics, sometime in mini-teams or benchmarks. Topics will be more around B2C services and people engagement, for instance on Climate Change actions to accelerate mitigation by the power and actions of individuals, crowdfunding etc.

3. Transfer. The objective is to facilitate innovation within EDF 157 000 workforce. Identifying relevant potential receivers among them, defining goals and timelines are the first steps. Transferring innovation requires phases of preparation, support and development, test or proof-of-concept program preparation in order to create commercial partnerships or investments (like the recent examples made by EDF in Germany or UK). This implies setting up working meetings, learning expeditions for decision makers and much more.

Business Development EDF Europe Business Solutions
1. Market intelligence in BENELUX in connection with Germany and the rest of Europe. Analysis of various trends and activities for the development of business related to energy and ecology transitions.

2. Business Development. Combining the possibilities and opportunities identified and qualified by his / her participation to Sourcing, with the experience developed by Transfer efforts, the VIE will contribute to market deployment of some of these solutions or services with innovative features. This could concern BENELUX, Germany or other countries where EDF is or could be present.

3. Corporate Innovation Partners. The VIE will support the Europe Open Innovation Director and Europe Business Solutions in the animation of the peer-to-peer networks that EDF has built with several international Corporates. Networks whose aim is to accelerate innovation in fields of common interest, in energy and beyond, to share qualified opportunities and investments in innovative projects or start ups.

Target profile
• High level formation (Bac+5 (5 years minimum after High School) Grande Ecole or European equivalent university diploma), business or technology.
• A strong motivation to work on the engagement of individuals and citizens on the Ecology Transition.
• Fluent English essential. Some German would not hurt.
• Strong ability to analyse and synthetize in English.
• A couple of years of experience after graduation would be a plus.
• European citizen welcome (under Business France rules). German nationals excluded under the same rules. Candidates aged under 29 at starting date of March or April 2020.
