Job Description

Internship/Master thesis on signal processing for multi-constellation GNSS receiver - Space -1-10-20

Position Description
Internship/Master thesis on signal processing for a multi-constellation GNSS receiver - Space department
Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) using signals from Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like the United States (US) Global Positioning System (GPS) and the emerging European GNSS Galileo have been used for a wide range of applications: road, aviation, rail, maritime, finance, security, science, etc. Nowadays the GNSS technologies play a major role in our society. Are you looking for a challenging internship?

CGI Netherlands is developing its own GNSS (snapshot) receiver able to process signals from both Galileo and GPS. Snapshot based receivers represent a new concept in terms of receiver technology and CGI NL is investigating the Research and Development (R&D) opportunities in this area. Therefore the company is looking for a highly motivated intern or master student to work in the R&D activities for the GNSS snapshot receiver.

The final topic will be established together with the selected candidate and his/hers University (if master student), depending on the candidate’s knowledge, experience and interests. Also CGI NL is offering a monthly compensation according to its internal regulations (≈ 500 euros/month). The internship is foreseen to last around 6 months.

Mission
Your mission will address one or several of the following points related to the GNSS signal processing algorithms:
• Design and simulation of Galileo and GPS signals
• Design of algorithms to process the modern signal structures used in Galileo (e.g., Binary Offset Carrier)
• Derivation of position estimation algorithms suitable for snapshot positioning based on the information extracted from the signals
• Derivation of integrity monitoring algorithms to exclude measurements affected by errors (e.g., Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring)
• Implementation of the proposed algorithms in the CGI’s snapshot GNSS SDR.

What about you?
We offer an internship and/or master thesis opportunity to a candidate/student with good knowledge in:
• Electrical, communications, computer science or related field of engineering,
• Good background in signal processing/mathematics,
• Knowledge of satellite navigation,
• Programming in C/C++.

What about us?
With almost 40 years in the industry, CGI Space is a growing business with exciting projects and prospects across the Navigation, Security, Earth Observation and Satcoms domains. We currently have around 500 members working on projects in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands. You will get the opportunity to work for Galileo. Galileo is Europe’s own global satellite system and currently consists of a constellation of 22 satellites. It is capable of providing a highly accurate, guaranteed global positioning service under civilian control. The system is still under development and has recently entered the Exploitation Phase. Our team is responsible for the development of the Key Management Facility of the Galileo Mission Segment.
