ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned)
To devise and apply the methodology for dealing effectively with those special analytical problems for which no published procedures exist
Conducts research to develop custom procedures as needed, working in conjunction with Lab management
To maintain a familiarity with the chemical literature and an awareness of current developments in the field
To render statistical analyses of analytical data
To advise and support with integrity the laboratory and clients in those issues that require a Chemist
To adhere to professionalism and to the principles of the scientific method, basing decisions on education, experience, observation, and deduction
Assists in monitoring, measuring and assessing quality assurance practices and protocols for continual improvement
Assists where necessary troubleshooting instrumentation problems, calibrations and quality assurance practices and protocols
Compiles and analyzes test information to determine operating efficiency of processes and equipment and to diagnose problems and malfunctions
Maintains calibration, QC and testing records
To perform the functions of a Laboratory Technician when occasionally required
Provide cover during periods of insufficient staffing
Communicates any problems, discrepancies or other noteworthy incidents to the Laboratory Manager without delay
Reviews local laboratory operations for all aspects of the continuous improvement process, including equipment use, maintenance and replacement
Deliver customer service, problem solving, corrective and preventive actions and continuous improvement initiatives
Set an example with regards to work ethic, attitude and timekeeping
Represents Inspectorate by appearance and conduct. Behaves ethically at all times
Read, understand and enforce the company BMS, ISO, Safety and Ethics policies
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required
EXPERIENCE: Two years related experience and/or training
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to write, read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situation to clients, management and other Inspectorate employees
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding in carrying out detailed written and/or verbal instructions and deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Must have above average communication skills and proficient in MS Office applications Word, Excel, Outlook & Access
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms and is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception
