SUMMARY :  Collects samples of products or raw materials for Laboratory analysis by performing the following duties.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :  include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Obtains samples of grain from rail cars, ships, barges, truck and bins using methods prescribed by USDA-FGIS.

 

Correctly identifies each sample and returns to lab.

 

Assists in laboratory with processing of samples

 

Other Duties:

 

Works as Weigher as needed.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS :  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE :  High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS :  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

 

REASONING ABILITY :  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out one or two step instructions.  Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS : Drivers License required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk or hear; and taste or smell.  The employee frequently is required to stand and reach with hands and arms.  The employee is occasionally required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

 

The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works with explosive material and is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.  The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; and in outside weather conditions.

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
