Pilot Plant / Kilo Lab Engineer (1902045) – Research Triangle Park, NC
Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking a professional like you to establish manufacturing criteria for scale up/down to/from commercial production of agrochemical processes and formulated products for Crop Protection. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring robustness of formulation processes and fit of equipment design for transfer into commercial manufacturing from R&D.
This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your knowledge of formulation science, environmental stewardship, process engineering, and health, safety and chemical hygiene in a chemical manufacturing environment. You will also leverage your experience in the transfer of products from lab to manufacturing scale and your interest in self-development through continuous learning.
Safety-first mentality and compliance with all applicable BASF guidelines and standards for EHS, including documentation of safe work practices for all equipment before placing into operation
R&D engineering support for new product launches and life cycle management projects, interfacing with Manufacturing and Operations
Liaison with Sales, Marketing, Registration, and field personnel in furnishing technical assistance and trial materials to solve product performance problems
Conduct engineering studies of agrochemical processes for successful scaling of new products and optimization of existing processes; document work for management review
Carry out R&D programs on approved Kilo Lab projects with assistance of technical personnel and/or contractors; organize operating procedures, data collection, observations and conclusions
Facilitate training of personnel from R&D, Manufacturing and Operations on process and equipment design; coordinate their involvement with Kilo Lab activities to ensure successful know-how transfer to production
Participate as technology resource for start-up operations and plant troubleshooting at manufacturing and tolling locations for launch of the developed products
Formula for Success
BS or BE in Chemical Engineering or other Engineering discipline with 5 years of practical experience in chemical manufacturing operations; MS or ME with 3 years of experience; Ph.D. in Engineering discipline
Knowledge of formulation science, environmental stewardship, process engineering, and health, safety and chemical hygiene in a chemical manufacturing environment
Knowledge of engineering technologies and equipment for formulation processes (milling, extrusion, granulation, emulsion, spray drying) in the field of Crop Protection
Track record of generating new innovation and application of cutting-edge engineering technology
Solid written and verbal communication and presentation skills with ability to build relationships across multiple functions and locations
Serious safety focus, attention to detail, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills
Interface with R&D and Manufacturing departments through past roles
Experience in transfer of products from lab to manufacturing scale
Capability in training and supervising newer members of the team, as and when needed
Interest in self-development through continuous learning
Computer skills including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database programs (DOE)
