  QA Lab Technician –2002424 – Chattanooga, TN

 
  Where the Chemistry Happens

  This position is responsible for 1) quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished latex products for the BASF Corp. Dispersions Plant in Chattanooga, TN within the scope of the BASF Quality Policy and ISO 9001 Quality Management System, 2) using appropriate software to evaluate data based on internal and external specifications, 3) support the continuous improvement of lab and plant processes through QA/QC activities and meet and/or exceed customer expectations.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Formula for Success

·  2-year Associates degree in Chemistry or a 2-year technical degree in analytical testing in Chemistry or a related field.  Experience with emulsion polymerization products and working in a manufacturing environment on a rotating shift.
·  Understanding of general chemistry, understanding of theory, operation, calibration, maintenance and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation such as gas chromatographs, viscometers, spectrophotometers, pH meters, moisture solids analyzers, etc.
·  Understanding of the techniques of quality assurance and quality control, understanding of math and statistics, and ISO/RCMS quality system requirements.
·  The ability to work as part of a team, understand chemical and instrument measurement processes, be self-motivated, conscientious, hardworking, willing to learn, enthusiastic, and an effective supporter of the BASF policies, programs and procedures and willing to develop technical knowledge and understanding of the chemical and measurement processes involved in the manufacture of styrene butadiene dispersions products.
·  Analyze raw materials, intermediate products, finished products and other chemical samples and evaluate suitability according to established specifications to ensure quality and availability of final product
·  Know, understand, and perform work according to established Standard Operating Procedures and make a positive contribution to the enhancement of such procedures
·  Know, understand and use software tools such as Lotus Notes, IQS Proficient, SAP, Microsoft Office Programs, etc. which enhance quality reporting
·  Ensure the suitability of laboratory equipment through proper operation, maintenance, calibration, verification and good quality control and assessment activities
·  Successfully complete training opportunities, achieve quality and personal goals/objectives and close development gaps by actively participating in the development of employee knowledge, skills and talents
·  Operate laboratory equipment and use BASF supplies and property in such a manner as to minimize costs as well as implement ways to successfully manage costs
·  Provide quality data to help support our customers’ requirements and expectations
·  Know, understand and promote continuous improvement of lab and plant processes through application of ISO/RCMS guidelines
·  Actively participate in internal auditing processes by being an ISO internal auditor or by performing nonconformance management auditing to help continuously improve site processes
·  Lead shift 5-Minute Quality meetings to promote quality awareness and communicate progress towards quality objectives
·  Analyze samples, provide quality data and become an active member along with the Lab Supervisor and Production personnel to provide innovative ideas to improve lab and plant processes and demonstrate continuous improvement
·  Actively participate in the implementation of corrective actions to improve plant and lab processes and demonstrate continuous improvement
·  Generate quality data and significant statistical data to support plant personnel in their efforts to enhance process control, meet customer requirements and continuously improve our product quality characteristics
·  Actively support and participate in plant quality-related continuous improvement projects by striving for goals and KPIs regarding continuous improvement of plant processes
·  Provide technical support for sales, marketing, R&D, Production and other BASF units/departments by providing quality data, statistical information and technical expertise for raw material evaluations, process improvements, new product development and expanded analytical capability
·  Obtain useful quality data and use suitable means for data evaluation and presentation to internal and external customers
·  Offer suggestions which are implemented to improve safety, product quality and plant operations
