DESCRIPTION

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is growing rapidly, and we are looking for a Data Center Engineering Operations Technician Intern to join our expanding Infrastructure Operations team. This 3 month summer internship offers the opportunity to work in one of the most cutting edge data centers in the world. Our data centers are large-scale, high-density centers where you will be working on changing the face of Cloud technology in the region.

The Engineering Operations Technician Intern will work to maintain the critical physical infrastructure that supports Amazon Web Services. Specifically, this intern will work to ensure that the data center's mechanical, electrical and plumbing operates at 100% availability while maintaining first-class customer service to the teams and groups within the data centers.

Our Engineering Operations Technician group is Amazon’s front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They maintain, operate, and troubleshoot the Data Center Operation’s Mission Critical Facilities, which includes stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, as well as three phase electrical systems such as: switch gear, UPSs, PDUs, wet cell batteries and associated systems, CRAC, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical system, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, & building automation systems.

Responsibilities:
· Maintain mechanical and electrical equipment.
· Assist root cause analysis of equipment failures.
· Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack-level events within internal SLA.
· Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to while performing work.
· Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment.
· Utilize internal CMMS to manage building workflows.

Physical Requirements
All physical requirements are expected with reasonable accommodations
· Walk job sites in uneven terrain.
· Work at heights and from ladders.
· Regularly lift and/or move up to 49 pounds unassisted and participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.
· Coordinate body movements when using tools or equipment.
· Reach and stretch to position equipment and fixtures while maintaining balance.
· Bend or twist the body into unusual positions while working.
· Perform extended site rounds that could include long distances of walking and long periods of time being away from a desk.
· Use hands to manipulate small wires and objects.
· Push or pull heavy objects into position.
· Work in a noisy environment.
· Works day shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations
· Work at depths, such as under raised floors.
· Work support could include travel to more than one site location (travel less than 25% of time).

· Meets or exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
· Meets or exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity.
· 1+ years of data center operations/facilities experience.

· Currently in pursuit of obtaining a Level 7 or 8 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related trades apprenticeship.
