DESCRIPTION

The Selection Economics team owns systems that optimize the selection of items that Amazon offers its customers worldwide so as to maximize long term free cash flow for Amazon. These systems continuously evaluate the economics of millions of items as part of the selection decision, handling more than a million requests per second and making business decisions worth billions of dollars each year. With rapid expansion into new geographies, increasing complexity of supply chain and expanding selection of products, the Selection Economics team has the opportunity to build software solutions that scale and propel the business through industry-leading technological innovations. Solutions to the problems in this space are at the cross-section of core engineering, distributed systems, machine learning, operations research and econometrics.

We are seeking a highly independent, out of the box thinker for the Business Intelligence Engineer in the team. A successful candidate will have strong analytical and problem solving skills, ability to work with large amounts of data to drive critical business insights and attention to detail. This individual will work closely with software engineers, product managers, research scientists, data scientists and economists within and across teams, to directly influence the team's roadmap by identifying new business opportunities, evaluating the quality of system decisions, researching solutions and developing metrics and reporting to provide company wide visibility on system impact. This individual will own metrics and analysis that will frequently be part of senior leadership reviews.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience with large-impact decisions support
· Experience working with research/data scientist and software engineers.
· Experience data modeling and transformation of large scale data sources using SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Hive, EMR, RedShift or other Big Data technologies
· Experience working on applications involving one or more of the following disciplines: machine learning, statistics, econometrics, operations research

Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Finance, Statistics or related discipline
· 3+ years' experience as a Business Intelligence Engineer, Data Scientist, or Business Analyst
· Basic knowledge of Statistics
· Proficiency with data querying or modeling technique with SQL
· Proficiency with a scripting language (Java, Python, or R)
