Browse Developer & Taxonomist

DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a smart and passionate person to join our Browse Taxonomy Team. This person will help build and develop an intuitive and comprehensive navigation structure to optimize product discovery when searching and browsing on our site. In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly and significantly impact the customer experience by making it easy and fun to shop for products on Amazon.in. As a Taxonomist, you will have the opportunity to influence our customer shopping navigation design and improve internal data quality processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and design customer-friendly navigation experiences to organize our extensive product selection
• Influence peers and advise business partners on taxonomy, ontology and metadata solutions to aid in improving customer product discovery
• Train and develop peers in improving taxonomy or ontology design and implementation challenges
• Independently manage medium and large projects; participate in planning and scoping of most project work
• Participate in and help develop team operational excellence programs
• Work with global team of taxonomists to significantly contribute to process and site improvement efforts

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience in E-Commerce
· Experience working on both local and global taxonomies
· Fluent in multiple languages
· Technically strong; Fluent in Unix-based systems and/or SQL databases
· Programming skills a plus

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Basic qualifications

· Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, Knowledge or Content Management; equivalent professional experience may be substituted
· 2-5 years of experience in taxonomy or ontology development
·
· Proven taxonomy design judgement
·
· Ability to translate business use cases into good taxonomy design
·
· Proven skills in querying large datasets
·
· Demonstrated ability to independently manage projects and communicate clearly with partner teams
·
· Passionate about website usability with great instincts for improving customer shopping experience
