Description of the Job:

We are looking for a System Engineer to join Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Waveform team within the Modem Product Group and will report to the Head of Modems.

The Modem Product Group is undertaking the design and implementation of a series of satellite communications Software Defined Radio (SDR) modem systems for Government and Military use.

As a System Engineer, you will research and develop waveform and signal processing aspects of Satellite Communications (SATCOM) modem products and associated communications systems.

You may not have a complete understanding of the engineering techniques and technical aspects of satellite modem systems, but we'll be happy to teach you through a combination of working with our existing team and by training.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Tasks & Accountabilities:

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

·  Lead the specification and guide the implementation and test of Software Defined Radio (SDR) waveform, Radio Frequency (RF) and Digital Signal Processing (DSP) aspects of innovative SATCOM modem systems
·  Specify complex communications systems in response to requirements
·  Define sub-systems, including communicating risk
·  Specify test and verification techniques
·  Diagnose hardware, firmware and software problems in the laboratory prototyping environment

Required Skills:

·  Some experience with SDR, flexible modems or complex DSP systems
·  Working knowledge of formal system engineering methods and signal processing tools such as MATLAB/Simulink 
·  Some knowledge of high speed A/D and D/A, System-on-chip Transceivers & FPGA's
·  Familiarity with modern test equipment, vector signal analysers and generators
