Description of the job

A vacancy for a Stress engineer and integrator - Manufacturing Simulations has arisen within AIRBUS in Getafe.
The successful applicant will join Engineering-ESCSAM

In the Airframe Competence Center, the sub-domain Stress and Design Services is accountable at Aircraft level for Design and Stress analysis.

The mission of the subordinate department Airframe Stress Solutions comprises the development and application of robust advanced solutions for Fatigue and damage tolerance, Spectra, Sensitivity studies, advanced simulations (testing and failures), Effects of Defects, Vulnerability, nonlinear Finite Element models, Manufacturing Process related Impacts to Structures, Optimization of structures and stress related deliverables.

The open position is allocated to the transnational TechCentre (TC) “Manufacturing Simulations”, ESCSAM. It encompasses the creation of structural FEM simulation models (completely non linear) and FEM simulation results of all kind and for all A/C programs and any airframe component in order to minimize technical / performance risks, to find the optimum between structural performance and RC (incl. time aspect) and so to secure major investments.

Furthermore the jobholder's mission is to develop, methods and tools for all kind of manufacturing process simulation for metal and composite structural elements.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
TECHNICAL/ENGINEERING:

·  To develop & deliver structural FEM simulation models/results/analysis for Composites e.g.:

Laying/Draping/Formin, Injection/Overmoulding, Curing, Machining, Drilling, Fastener Assemblies (built stress), Bonding Assemblies (built stress), Welding Assemblies (built stress)

·  To develop & deliver structural FEM simulation models/results/analysis for Metal e.g.:

Forming / Rectification, Heat Treatment, Machining / Drilling, Fastener Assemblies (built stress), Bonding Assemblies (built stress), Welding Assemblies (built stress),

·  Validate models/results in cooperation with relevant disciplines like manufacturing Engineering and M&P specialists
·  Deliver early manufacturability assessments to manufacturing, identify problem root causes, drive sensitivity analyses and propose process improvements or tooling corrections
·  Provide manufacturing simulation expertise solutions to complex and hot topics
·  Develop and maintain manufacturing simulation processes, methods, and tools for A/C and component level solutions. In this frame the jobholder e.g. will have to
·  Develop appropriate material models
·  Design and execute specific material characterisation tests in collaboration with material & process specialists
·  Identify proper boundary conditions and loads for the processes with support of manufacturing specialists
·  Identify key process parameters and their ranges with support of material and manufacturing specialists
·  Provide specialist support to Airbus Group airframe structure engineering
·  Manage task related S/C packages and cooperation with Airbus India

INTEGRATION:

·  Develop new business by capturing needs in collaboration with paying customer(s) and relevant other disciplines (design engineers, airworthiness specialists, material specialists, manufacturing specialists)
·  Set up cross-programme, site specific strategic plans for manufacturing simulations
·  Advertise and actively expand manufacturing simulation capabilities
·  Maintain close collaboration and generate synergies with peers, mainly manufacturing, specific design teams, non-linear and linear DFEM, Virtual Testing, Manufacturing Innovation, Tolerancing, Master geometry, GFEM, Flight physics, Certification
·  Ensure compliance with airworthiness regulations & qualification standards
·  Review and approve manufacturing simulation documents
·  Presentations in front of airlines and airworthiness authorities

Required skills

·  University degree in aeronautical Engineering or equivalent
·  5 years experience in aircraft structure engineering; preferable experience in SDW as well as in NSDW perimeter
·  Experience or at least demonstrable affinity with both CAD and CAE and (CATIA and Abaqus, including Fortran user-subs)
·  basic experience in Non Linear FEM
·  basic knowledge with manufacturing operations, shop-trials and manufacturing simulation
·  Basic experience in leading S/C workpackage
·  Familiarity with airframe stress and design methods and tools
·  Good communication skills ability to assert oneself
·  Ability to work in an independent transnational environment with superior potentially at a different site
·  English advanced
·  Spanish will be valuable
