Description of the job

A vacancy for a Software Architect / Developer has arisen within Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. You will join our Network Management Systems group (NMS) and report to the Head of NMS.

You will be a good developer who wants more exposure to defining software architectures within an agile environment. You will help build specific areas of the design and work within the implementation team to achieve the solution. You will contribute to all stages of the software development life-cycle, so you will have experience in requirements analysis, designing with UML and developing with Java.

You will have experience of working collaboratively and contributing to technical discussions with colleagues and customers alike.

You will need to be eligible to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake the role.

Tasks & accountabilities

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:
- Responsibility for a design area
- Work within the implementation team to develop solutions. Work with the team to select tools, frameworks and libraries
- Task estimation and scheduling activities
- Software Development, Testing and Documentation
- Support Software and System Integration

Your role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills

- Degree level education
- Java core
- Common software design patterns
- Knowledge of test strategies (unit/integration/system)
