Description of the job

A vacancy for a FMS ISeR has arisen within Airbus Commercial in Toulouse.
You will join the Flight Management System team.

You will join our ISeR (In-Service Responsible) team that is an integral part of the FMS design office in Toulouse. The FMS design office is responsible for the Flight Management and Airport Navigation systems on all Airbus aircraft.

Tasks & accountabilities

The Flight Management System ISeR is responsible for FMS in-service support to our External customers (Airlines) & Internal customers (Customer Support, Final Assembly Line (FAL), other systems, Airworthiness, Civil and Military Programs, etc). These tasks include:

- Liaising with our internal customers to receive, understand and address new support requests.
- Analysing these requests as needed with the support of a sub-contracted support team, FMS design office specialist and experts, FMS suppliers, laboratory team, flight test team, etc.
- Investigating issues using Airbus laboratory test benches, simulators, FAL, test aircraft, etc. as required.
- Where queries are safety/airworthiness related: coordinating investigation & responses with all related stakeholders (Safety, Certification, Airworthiness, Programs, Experts…).
- Compiling the associated replies to our customers, and capitalising knowledge & lessons learned for re-use on similar new queries.
- Supporting industrial activities e.g. Modifications, service bulletins, option configurations & associated data bases.
- Supporting improvements of operational documents (e.g. Flight Crew Operating Manual)
- Coordinate and manage the associated sub-contracted support team, investigations & deliverables.
- Drive introduction of new methods based on big data techniques to improve FMS in-service support activities.

The role thus has a large number of interfaces including major multi-national suppliers, other aircraft system teams, laboratory and flight test teams, civil and military aircraft programs, safety, certification, airworthiness, aircraft programs, etc.

This requires the ability to work and prioritise to strict timescales as part of large transnational teams, flexibility, technical rigour, ability to persuade & influence, and good project management capabilities.

Required skills

As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some or all of the following skills and competencies:

- Aeronautical/ systems/ avionics engineering degree (or equivalent) and 3 years or more of experience, ideally in one or more of the following areas:
- Flight Management / guidance & control design and support
- Systems software / hardware specification and development
- Flight Physics
- Big Data & Digitalization
- Curiosity and taste for technical investigations.
- Motivation, your autonomy, your sense of prioritization.
- Knowledge of airline operations or an experience in customer support would be valuable assets.
- Ability to work with proactivity, flexibility and assertiveness to strict timescales as part of an integrated multidisciplinary team
- Excellent communication, persuasion & influencing skills, decision making ability, and a pro-active approach to problem solving
- Team spirit
- Willingness to learn and openness to change, new methodologies & technologies
- Ability to speak & work in English is required
- A working knowledge of French is desirable.
- The willingness to occasionally travel both nationally & internationally.
