Description of the job

One vacancy for an Attitude and Orbit Control system (AOCS) / Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) Advanced Studies Engineer (m/f) has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Toulouse. The successful applicant will join the AOCS/GNC and FDS advanced studies department, in Toulouse.

The Advanced Studies engineer is in charge of the design of new AOCS/GNC concepts and technologies for Earth Observation, Telecommunications, Navigation, Science, Landing & Rendezvous, applicable to complex projects such as Galileo, Mars Sample Return, lunar landing systems, in-orbit servicing missions ….

Tasks & accountabilities

Within this context, you will be in charge of the following activities for both satellite system studies & technological Research, Technology & Development studies/contracts:

- Defining, analyzing and developing innovative concepts for future space missions (architectures, algorithms, actuators and sensors)
- Iteratively deriving the AOCS/GNC functional chain requirements & architecture from mission needs, environment, spacecraft characteristics and equipment performance
- Defining and designing AOCS/GNC algorithms, and assessing preliminary performance/feasibility on functional simulators
- Validating new concepts through an adapted approach (full simulation, prototype / Engineering Model development and tests, Software/Hardware In-the-Loop) and coordination with other engineering entities (on-board software, mechanical & electrical design, simulation tools)
- Supporting transfer to industrial development phases.

Required skills

You have an Engineering diploma or a Master's degree with a specialization in Space and/or Automatic Control, with an experience in a similar position in the Avionics/AOCS/GNC fields.
You also have skills in all/part of the following technical fields:
- Advanced control theory and signal filtering/processing,
- Space flight dynamics basics,
- Knowledge of Matlab/Simulink tools, as well as C/C++/JAVA, for modelling and functional simulation,
- Knowledge of AOCS/GNC system design & real-time implementation.

You are able to adapt to fast-changing contexts/requirements while maintaining technical quality/focus, and are able to rapidly identify key design drivers and synthesize recommendations.
An advanced level of English and French is required for this position. You have the following qualities:
