Legal and Commercial Services professionals deliver and coordinate legal, contract and commercial advice and counsel in support of Accenture's or our clients' business, working to manage and mitigate risk and ensure ethical behavior and compliance with laws and company policies.

Job Summary:

The Data Privacy Policy Counsel – Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy is a permanent full-time role for an experienced data privacy lawyer. Successful candidates will have a strong legal background and be able to demonstrate competency and experience in advising on data protection and privacy, primarily within the Asia Pacific region. The role is part of Accenture's global Data Privacy team, within Accenture's Legal function, and reports to Accenture's Global Data Protection Officer. As the role will primarily be supporting stakeholders within the Asia Pacific region, Accenture has a preference to fill the role in India, the Philippines or Malaysia.

Key Responsibilities
· As part of the Data Protection Officer Centre of Excellence (described internally as a “Tower” within Accenture's global Data Privacy team), the Data Privacy Counsel role has responsibility for:
· Advising and supporting accountable stakeholders in the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments;
· advising regarding requests or complaints from individuals concerning their personal data in accordance with Accenture's data privacy program and policies, Binding Corporate Rules and applicable law;
· providing expert legal guidance and support regarding data privacy law to Accenture's Data Privacy and Information Security Leads within the APAC, Middle East and South African regions and to other key stakeholders including the Legal function;
· supporting Accenture's engagements with Data Privacy Supervisory Authorities within the Asia Pacific region; and
· otherwise supporting the global Data Privacy team members with points requiring data privacy guidance and support, including new and changing laws and regulations.
· The successful candidate will display a competence in and passion for data privacy. They will further demonstrate a strong track record in guiding stakeholders on data privacy law. A solution orientated mindsight coupled with a keen appreciation for the importance of ethical thinking in all data privacy related matters and organizational compliance will be a prerequisite to obtaining the role.
· The successful candidate will be comfortable with taking accountability for the performance of data privacy assessments and reviews and will be able to partner and collaborate with senior stakeholders in developing and communicating the outcomes of such reviews and settling remediating actions with accountable stakeholders.
· A key feature of the role will involve in coordinating with and between Accenture Data Privacy and Information Security Leads (each a “DPISL”) in different jurisdictions within the Asia Pacific region, the Middle East, and South Africa. The successful candidate will need to have a highly collaborative nature to successfully fulfil this aspect of the role and this mindset will need to be demonstrated. The candidate will need to effectively and collegially work in alignment with a team of Data Privacy professionals, other legal professionals and business teams in remote locations, providing advice and guidance in an ethical, engaged, business focused and pragmatic manner.
· In collaboration with our Policies & Governance tower, the successful candidate will from time to time support with the execution of strategy for external relations in data privacy, in alignment with our Government Relations team
· The successful candidate will keep abreast of legal, regulatory and technology trends and developments and their impact and will enjoy interacting with new and innovative technologies.

Desired profile



Qualifications :

Languages: Excellent written and spoken English, sufficient to address complex legal issues in a work environment where English is the usual spoken language.

Education: Qualified to practice as a lawyer in your home state jurisdiction although exceptions may be made for exceptional candidates with a University Degree (Master or comparable level) in law or a related discipline. FIP/CIPP/CIPM or comparable privacy certifications from the IAPP or other reputable international data privacy organizations will be highly advantageous.

Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in global data privacy function, preferably in a major law firm and/or multinational corporation. Prior roles involving auditing, complaints management or strong project management and organizational skills would be considered a plus. Experience and expertise with major national data privacy legislation within the Asia Pacific regions. Experience in monitoring trends and developments in the APAC region concerning data privacy and translating those into actionable requirements will also be considered highly beneficial.

Work Requirements: limited travel required as needed. Must have ability to effectively work with others remotely.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
·  Demonstrated command of data privacy and related laws and regulations, primarily within the Asia Pacific region.
·  An enthusiasm for learning regarding new or developing data privacy law regimes.
·  A proven ability to formally identify, assess and propose remediations to personal data processing activities which may represent or create a risk for persons.
·  Confidence and credibility in dealing with key external stakeholders, including supervisory authorities, together with internal management, and data privacy industry bodies.
·  Demonstrated ability to identify, understand and assess trends and developments within data privacy, an ability to explain issues in a practical, results focused manner, and curiosity for learning about new technology.
·  Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills with strongly collaborative instincts, and the ability to develop relationships, with all levels of management and staff, work cross-culturally, and represent Accenture externally.
·  Highly motivated and proactive, with the ability to articulate company vision and policy, and to seek out areas of risk and priority.
·  Ability to consistently apply good judgment; and
·  Adapts nimbly to changing needs within the business.
