JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function/Primary Goals/Objectives:

Material Control is responsible for the total material function at the Sturgis Plant including palletization, finished product storage, distribution and computerized documentation of the above activities through Cambar.

The Material Control Utility position requires very flexible individuals who are self-starters and quickly adapt. The Utility position has an assigned shift; however, on occasion will be assigned to another shift for designated periods. The position will relieve routine tasks associated with the Material Control Operator, Switcher Operator, Palletizer Operator and Shipping Clerk activities.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Shipping clerk activities
  • Finished goods palletizing and warehousing
  • Truck shipping
  • Semi-trailer switching
  • Consolidation and LTL order picking
  • Government order picking, marking and preparation
  • Sample request selection
  • Rework and re-casing
  • Machine user maintenance and warehouse housekeeping
  • Perform other duties including overtime, as assigned by crewleader, supervisor or manager
  • Fill in for crewleader as required
  • Assist with Parcel Operations as needed
  • Responsible to participate in cost reduction, process improvement and other job-related continuous improvement activities necessary to ensure operational and market competitiveness
  • Update and troubleshoot data in computerized Warehouse Management System
  • Inbound/put away function

Education:

This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Technical college computer operations courses a plus.

Background:

  • The individual must have or be willing to obtain a CDL. If individual does not have a CDL, they must obtain a CDL within 1 year of accepting the position
  • The individual should have an aptitude for business; requires in-depth knowledge of all warehouse operations, procedures and requirements which usually are obtained through on-the-job training of about 1 ½ years
  • The individual's personality must be temperamentally suited to dealing with people under high pressure and constantly changing environment
  • Hand Tools, Power Tools, Machines or Equipment: Counter-balance lift truck, narrow-aisle lift truck, push-pull attachment, fax machine, copier, CRT computer monitory, motorized floor scrubber, switcher tractor, hand tools, power tools, palletizers (two types), stretchwrappers and conveyors
