JOB DESCRIPTION:

MAIN PURPOSE OF ROLE

Contribute to the design and development of software across one or more domains: mobile, web, desktop, and embedded under a disciplined product development process that meets FDA  and other regulatory requirements.

Work on software design, coding, and validating software, supporting verification and validation testing, and ensuring that all product development conforms to design specifications and coding standards for medical devices.

Exercise judgment in coding following the software designs and conducting investigation activities following defined methods.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

•Familiarity with with "C" programming or similar programming languages (e.g. Swift, Java, Objective-C, C#, C, C++).

•Writes test plans and conducts design verification testing of hardware.

•Identifies and resolves discrepancies between new design test requirements and test system capabilities using hardware or software designs.

•Assist in the preparation of software design requirements and detailed design specifications for implementation of software designs per Abbott design development process.

•Assist in the evaluation of selected designs through testing and full documentation of the results.

•Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors.

•Contributes to and supports root-cause analysis of failures.

•Working from requirement specifications, develops, maintains, and updates test requirements and design;

•Exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.

•Participates in and supports the implementation, development, enhancements, and modifications to software source code, scripts, and procedures;

•Debugs, troubleshoots, and isolates software problems as well as offers strategic solutions, analysis, and advice regarding identified issues for future development;

•Identifies parameters, structure, and critical test components. Writes, updates, or executes test design, cases, as well as procedures and reports results.

•Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Associates Degree (± 13 years)

Software engineering, computer science, or a related engineering field.

an equivalent combination of education and work experience

Other

or relevant software certification (e.g. Udacity Nanodegree)

Experience/Background

Minimum 4 years

4 years of experience in software development (combination of programming-heavy coursework, school projects, freelance work and professional experience), preferably in Medical Devices.

Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred. Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment. Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects. Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization. Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner. Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.

Ability to travel approximately 10%, including internationally.
