JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives

This position's objective is to give the supervisor trainee the skills and knowledge necessary to supervise a plant operations teams.  The Trainee will learn policies relating to personnel, company goals, practices and proper procedures to achieve the operations objectives.

Major Responsibilities

Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.

Observe and learn how the various Plant operating areas interact and impact upon each other during the daily operations. Obtain actual experience in the areas of leading a team, achievement of operational, quality, safety and financial goals.

Meet production requirements.

Operate the production team to be within budget from an overtime, material usage, expense and quality basis.

Learn the proper employee relations techniques and requirements:

  • Counseling skills
  • Open door policy
  • Safety training
  • Employee evaluations and reviews

This position is designed to develop supervisory skills needed to run a production team.  Trainee must deal directly with non-exempt production employees and learn to motivate, direct, as well as deal with employee relations situations.  In addition, skills are needed in dealing with peers in other departments to achieve the goals of the department and plant.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.

Background

Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.

Relevant business experience and a minimum of 3 years of production experience.
Trainee needs to be able to translate the stated departmental goals into action through proper guidance and motivation of his/her employees.  Decisions as to quality, personnel, and production performance can be made within plant guidelines.

Accountability

The Front Line Lead (FLL) trainee could directly affect the quality and use of product being produced on any given shift. 
The FLL trainee will make decisions regarding personnel, production and quality as it relates to the operation.  The incumbent will receive guidance from the departmental FLL or manager of the area being worked in.
