JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position is for 2nd shift 1445-2300. Saturday – Wednesday. Days off Thursday & Friday

Primary Function:

The Powerhouse Operator Mechanic is responsible for learning all aspects of the job during the defined training period (training times may vary based on skillset and availability of stationary engineering classes, typical time frame is 18-24 months). 

 Equipment in scope of responsibility:

  • Boilers
  • Air Compressors & Dryers
  • Refrigerant Chillers
  • Ammonia Compressors, Condensers, Chill plates
  • Reverse Osmosis Systems
  • Carbon Filtration
  • Fire system
  • Waste Water Treatment
  • Critical HVAC Units
  • Supporting Infrastructure – piping, pumps, valves, motors, steam traps, steam pushers 

The trainee must also obtain a State of Ohio 3rd class stationary engineers license (normal time frame is within 18 months from start date).  

Main Responsibilities:

  • Equipment operation – efficiently and reliably
  • Equipment maintenance - troubleshooting and repair (daily rounds)
  • Preventative Maintenance - adherence and sign off
  • Shift coverage (willingness to work alternative shifts, and Overtime estimated at 300-500 hrs / year)
  • Cross training – teaching and learning from others
  • Development of work task job plans and standard operating procedures
  • Work order submission and sign off via Maximo Maintenance management system
  • Communicating equipment needs via turnover to all of department / plant leadership
  • Permit writing for general and contractor work
  • Adherence to safety and GMP (good manufacturing practices) policies and procedures
  • Perform tasks as assigned, self directed, safely, and on time
  • Preform job with minimal or no supervision

Accountability/Scope/Budget:

This position is accountable for complying with applicable FDA (GMP), USDA, OSHA, Abbott and Columbus Plant regulations, policies, procedures or guidelines.

On a continuous basis, this position must coordinate utility usage with all plant production areas to avoid utility shortages that could:

  • Stop production
  • Jeopardize product quality
  • Result in environmental noncompliance

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED required 
  • Two years work experience working with industrial utilities systems or industrial electrical/mechanical systems.
  • Must be able to obtain State of Ohio 3rd class stationary engineers license.

Preferred Experience/Background:

  • Licensed boiler operator, State of Ohio 3rd class stationary engineers
  • Maintenance Mechanic
  • Pipe fitting/welding
  • Certified Backflow Tester
  • Boiler Operator
  • Small project (less than $50,000) execution
