JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our location in Abbott Park, IL currently has an opportunity for an experienced Paralegal, Clinical Research.  The Paralegal will focus on clinical research to support Abbott’s global clinical research divisions and provide legal review of research-related contracts and issues in direct support of clinical research teams. The experienced Paralegal will be responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures. This is an intermediate individual contributor position with potential for management opportunity within Abbott’s Legal Division.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

· 
Identifies basic legal issues related to assigned matter

· 
Drafts, reviews, and negotiates a variety of research-related contracts, including clinical research, services, consultants, confidentiality and other standard contracts;

· 
Reviews and responds to proposed contract revisions from clinical research and service providers and negotiates directly with third parties;

· 
Drafts and maintains research-related contract templates for utilization by Abbott’s global research divisions;

· 
Interacts with various levels of management and a variety of functional areas within the company;

· 
Coordinates solutions with clients and local attorneys in other countries;

· 
Assists in development and presentation of training for global client groups;

· 
Performs independent analysis of legal issues and proposes solutions to legal counsel;

· 
Stays abreast of legal and regulatory developments that impact areas of client concern;

· 
Represents Abbott externally to research partners, service providers, and outside legal counsel.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

Required

· 
Bachelor’s Degree and relevant legal education (Paralegal certificate)

· 
Minimum of 2- 4 years of relevant experience

Preferred

· 
3+ years of contract negotiation experience within R&D of a Healthcare Industry.

· 
Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

· 
Working knowledge of general legal concepts, terminology and principles related to contracts.

· 
Attention to detail, good judgment, and solid organization skills.

· 
Corporate law department experience.
