Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Abbott is about the power of health. For more than 125 years, Abbott has been helping people reach their potential — because better health allows people and communities to achieve more. With a diverse, global network serving customers in more than 150 countries, we create new solutions — across the spectrum of health, around the world, for all stages of life. Whether it’s next-generation diagnostics, life-changing devices, science-based nutrition, or novel reformulations, we are advancing some of the most innovative and revolutionary technologies in healthcare, helping people live their best lives through better health.

Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is a division within Abbott that has a 25 year legacy of developing testing systems that have changed the lives of diabetics the world over. With its headquarters in California, ADC has 2 European manufacturing sites – one in Ireland and one in Oxfordshire. Both sites manufacture glucose test strips and the UK site is a Manufacturing Centre of Excellence, producing the next generation sensor technology used in the revolutionary new FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring system.

ADC UK has a clear vision for its sensor technology business. Building on recent capital investment and growth in the people and facilities in Witney, we will continue to expand and develop our High Volume manufacturing facility in the years ahead.

Part of this vision is our Science & Engineering Graduate Development Programme. Now entering its 5th year of offering Graduate Schemes, we have an opportunity to join a newly developed pathway, designed for graduates of Systems / Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Maths or Statistics, or graduates with a keen and demonstrable interest in Systems Engineering.

Graduates who join on this bespoke scheme experience ground-up product and manufacturing exposure alongside a rotation programme though various fields such as systems engineering, quality, research and development, and operations, focusing specifically on your area of discipline, with the aim of strengthening your specialised knowledge. During the graduate programme, the successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn key technical aspects of the sensor business ranging from software development (design, implementation and evaluation), quality assurance, to hazard/risk management.

This is a small and flexible programme, so the exact timings and development opportunities you will be given will depend on your skills, interests and experiences and our business requirements as your programme develops. Your career with us will see a rotation between 3 disciplines - Engineering, R&D, and Quality with potential for short-term international placement, growing you into that true subject matter expert.

After approximately 36 months, you will move into a role that will be your first ‘permanent’ position in ADC UK (although your employment contract with us will be permanent from day one).

On top of our named buddy scheme (where you will likely be paired with one of our existing Libre graduates), you will have the added investment and access to an already established coaching and mentoring programme to support you during each phase of your development.

In addition to a competitive starting salary, Abbott offers a highly attractive benefits package which includes an excellent pension scheme, a share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and further flexible benefits which you can tailor to your own requirements. Here at Witney, we also like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, bee keeping, yoga and more!
