ABB Switzerland Ltd, High Voltage Products is renowned worldwide as a specialist in components for power transmission and power distribution. Within the area of High Voltage Products, the Technology Center Switzerland has about 90 employees and is responsible – as part of a global development organization – for the development and optimization of products like Gas Insulated Switchgear, Generator Circuit Breakers, Surge Arresters, High Voltage Interrupter Chambers, Insulation Components as well as Control and Monitoring solutions. For our location in Zürich-Oerlikon, we are offering an internship for at least six months. Do you have a background in Physics or Engineering? You are looking for a challenging internship within an international environment? You have knowledge of simulations associated with engineering applications and interest in programming? We then have the right job opportunity for you!

Tasks:

- Data analysis and post-test evaluations in the context of development of High Voltage Circuit Breakers
- Perform pressure build-up simulations of Circuit Breakers
- Assist the Development/Design team during the assembly and testing of Circuit-breakers
- Work alongside the development team to improve existing HPT (High Performance Testing) tools – involves programming in Python
- Run mechanical simulations (e.g. kinematics of operating mechanism) under the supervision of the lead Simulation Engineer

Requirements:

- Student (preferably Master-level) in Physics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Above average proficiency and interest in programming
- Basic (student-level) knowledge of Simulations associated with electrical / mechanical engineering applications
- Knowledge in High-voltage Engineering is advantageous
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to work in a team, as well as willingness to handle responsibilities independently
