Job description

A well-established international fruit company is looking to offer the chance to undertake a work-placement to join the team in a position based in Africa, with the Agronomic Department. Compagnie Fruitiere, a company established in 1939, is the leading grower of fruit in the Africa-Caribbean-Pacific region which has developed into a vertically integrated tropical fruit company, with plantations across West Africa, a fleet of specialised ships, as well as ripening and distribution centres across Europe. A dynamic and growing company with further expansion plans.
Main missions:
- 2018 organic banana plantation expansion’s monitoring
- Land Preparation activities coordination (agronomy, technical and production departments)
- Organic Technical Itinerary (TI) improvement and application during land preparation
- Soil surveying (sampling, soil profiles, interpretation, mapping)
- Plot designing and cartography (GIS)
- Schedule and procedures management – Progress and retro-planning follow-up
- S.O.P. review and formulation
- Organic cropping system improvement, implementation, monitoring
- Existing trial plots production and agronomic performance tracking and follow-up (sustainability assessment)
- Pest management and control (sigatoka/cercosporiose): setting-up and monitoring of trials / Technical Itinerary improvement
- Weed management: monitoring of trials (manual/mechanized/covercrops)
- Fertilization improvement: experiments on the soil fertility, speed of mineralisation and Organic Matter inputs
- New plantings monitoring support (agronomic monitoring)
- Technical Itinerary validation
- Organic crop expansions’ adaptation and modulation according to trial plots and new planting’ results analysis and interpretations
- Experimental organic innovations implementation and follow-up (cover-corp, buffer zones, etc.)
- Retro-active adaptations implementation regarding the various organic development scales (age)
- Maintain a permanent link (agronomy, production, management) between these various scales
